Did I Just Hurt My Chances of Admission?

So, I just applied to Point Loma, and I honestly feel so stupid because I was working on my essay, and I looked at the time and realized that I did not have enough time to finish it (11:55 PM), so I logged into my Common App to submit my application and noticed that it said I was past the application deadline. I was confused because it was not past the deadline yet, and I’ve submitted an application close to the deadline before, but it never gave me that message. It says that I submitted the application at 2:59 AM, but I am in California, and it was 11:59 PM.

Did I just hurt my chances at this school for submitting the application “late”? Did I hurt my chances of getting in because I also didn’t finish the essay as well? I have not been having the motivation to really get anything done lately because of some personal issues going on. I was going to email my admissions counselor, but I don’t know if it would be the best idea to bother him with that. I’m so frustrated with myself for not being able to get it done on time, and I’m worried that I just hurt my chances of getting into Point Loma. I mean, I have no excuse because I really should have done it sooner when I was in a better place to do it, but I didn’t.

Should I have even applied in the first place? I was going to apply Early Action, but I never got around to it because of ongoing issues since then. I feel so stupid and frustrated with myself, and I don’t know what to do at this point. I was supposed to get a free waiver, but I missed out on that because I never got to submit the app until just now, and I’m worrying I just wasted $55 on a denial because I didn’t submit the app on time, and my essay wasn’t even complete.

I think that you should call admissions today and ask them. My understanding is that Point Loma is also in California. I would have expected their midnight deadline to be relative to the location of the school. It sounds like some computer system was on east coast time.

If you call them, make sure to stay polite and professional at all times.

Both the Common App and Coalition offer fee waivers. I think you’ll be fine because it takes some time for the applications to process.

The official deadline is usually until midnight to submit the application. However, colleges actually give you several hours until the next day to submit you app. I noticed it said that on the common app that it was past the deadline when my daughter submitted some of her apps, and it was clearly before midnight. I would not worry. They actually want your application.

Okay, thank you. I was worrying that it was going to be late. I know that some schools allow until midnight of your time zone to submit it, but I was worrying about it saying that it was late.

Hello everyone! Update! I just received acceptance from Point Loma!!! I am over the moon excited!
