Did I just mess up?

Skip to the end if this is too long.

So, basically, I’m a sophomore in high school, and now that the year is coming to an end, I think I just completely messed up my GPA and chances in getting into the college that I want to go to.

Throughout my life, my brain could easily absorb academics, and I could get through really easily. This was the case until my last semester of sophomore year. I currently take the highest classes my school offers (4 APs (Chem, Gov, Lang, and Econ (first semester), and junior math). Freshman year and 1st semester I had a 3.720 weighted GPA, but now as the year is ending, I failed chemistry my second semester (which is fine because I already have 1.5 chem credits, and I only need 1 credit), and got a C in math. (I have As in my other classes with the 10 for AP and without for non AP), but this led to my GPA dropping to a 3.388 weighted.

I will be taking IB diploma for the next two years. Hypothetically speaking, if I get all A’s my next two years without the 10 points, do you think that I still have a chance to get into my school of choice? The school I want to get in is UGA. I know that I dug myself a hole, and it might be near impossible if not really hard to get out, but will I be able to manage it? Especially if I do take IB Diploma?

I’m sorry if this is too long, so the summary of the whole thing is, if I end sophomore year with a 3.388 weighted GPA, and somehow get all A’s junior and senior year, will I be able to get into UGA? And, what would my ending GPA be weighted if I do happen to do really well my last two years? (I’m taking 4 IB HL classes as well as an AP and Orchestra next year.)

Those grades probably will hurt you. You need to figure out why you got those grades – you are getting to the challenging part of HS, so you want to avoid future problems. You might want to take less rigorous math & science tracks if you struggle with those subjects. And branch out to more than just one college you are focused on.

I know that it was work habits for the reason I fail science, as I don’t have the best ones. As I mentioned above, I went through school easily. I would be able to gets As and high Bs doing the bare minimum. As for math, I can understand numbers, but my teacher was new, and just couldn’t teach. It wasn’t just me, but the other students ended up pretty upset with her.

I know that science and math may be hard for me for the next years, but I would like to challenge myself to see what happens. Yes, I have terrible work habits, but I am set on changing that, and pushing myself to see where I end up.

Also, I do have back up schools in mind, but if possible, I would like to increase my chances of getting into UGA.
