I always stress on making sure I do the right thing and not leave any err to caution.

My parents are military and I'm still considered a dependent. My dad's home of record is TX which makes him a texas resident. We've been living in Washington for 4 years now. By the time I applied for FAFSA I had been living and working there for 12 months and acquired a WA drivers license(learned how to drive there). I considered myself a resident for WA but my parents Texas residents on the FAFSA. I qualified to pay instate tuition regardless.

I will be moving with my parents soon and now applying to another college. I've learned recently that I am Texas resident b/c I am still dependent on my parents...

Did I lie?

yes. you cannot be a resident officaly through a school until you have lived there for a year.

I did live there for a year…reread please

Not sure what the question is?

If the question is “Am I eligible for instate tuition in WA” read the rules in the link below

[RCW 28B.15.012: Classification as resident or nonresident student ? Definitions.](RCW 28B.15.012: Classification as resident or nonresident student—Definitions.)

I A student who is the spouse or a dependent of a person who is on active military duty stationed in the state. If the person on active military duty is reassigned out-of-state, the student maintains the status as a resident student so long as the student is continuously enrolled in a degree program;*

Are you already in college or going to attend college? Are you moving out of state? If you are moving out of state, you were WA resident at least for tuition purposes till you move out?

Home of record is not necessarily your ‘residence’. You are fine. Regarding instate tuition residency requirements - MILITARY IS DIFFERENT!!
Because of the unique situation of military families, many states have different ‘residency’ rules for in-state tuition.
You did not lie, you are fine. Don’t worry about this.

Here’s a guide to state residency rules put together by CollegeBoard. You can look up Washington (I think you are just fine) and wherever it is you are transferring to.

Actually for active duty military dependents this is a better website:
