DID i lose all hopes or should i just retake!!

Hi guys, i was really hoping to get a great SAT score ranging from 2250-2300+ but since it was my first time and in a distant location;; i didn't sleep that night and messed up completely my sat test.
In fact, while i always had straight 800-'s in math(practice tests) i only got 770 on test day
writing: i used to get between 740-770
but CR really destroyed me : i never got less than 730 but on test day i got 650 (epic fail!!!)
i am really devastated since i was planning for sth around 2300 and i only got a freaking:::** 2150** I KNOW i CAN GET a 2300 IF IN PROPITIOUS CONDITIONS(viewing my stat practice tests), this was only my first time and i wasn't used to the stress:: SHOULD I RETAKE IN JANUARY(and apply without knowing my score) or just give up(not completely of course)!!

WHAT SHOULD I DO ???

plz help me i am totally devastated!!

Your scores are near the middle range for accepted students (see here: [Admissions Statistics | MIT Admissions](Admissions statistics | MIT Admissions) ). No reason to panic. If you think you didn’t do your best, you should retake.

the thing is that i never got such scores on practice tests: i always got around 2300
and i didn’t sleep the night of the test
::Could that be the reason for my fail!
Should i retake knowing that it was y first sit and that i didn’t sleep::would i go back to the 2300 without more practice??
thanks

I could be the reason or not but we couldn’t tell.
A friend of mine, who is pretty good at math, got 610 Math2 in his first try, he was devastated. He took it the next month again and got 800 easily. So yes, retaking can really improve your score but I think it works for just the 1-2nd retake and only if you work.

I don’t know which tests you used, but its also possible that they may not be similar to the real test.

As lidusha said, don’t panic. Your scores are just fine. I say focus on subject tests and essays.

I do think that not sleeping could have affected your score dramatically. I would definitely retake so that your scores actually represent what you feel are your capabilities. I would focus on your essays and other exams, and retake the SAT I at your next opportunity. Take a few practice tests one or two weekends before to make sure you’re still in good shape; I wouldn’t study much beyond that. Good luck.

thanks guys;
you’re always there to support me in my trials!!
