If you see my past posts, you can see I needed help on deciding which college to go to.

I went to Northeastern University for 1 year. My first semester i got a 2.8 and my second semester i got a 1.7. Being a 4.0 GPA high school student, this was hard to swallow. I didnt like the school too much so I put in a transfer application to several schools.

Due to my low GPA, I only made the cut-off for a few schools, and ended up picking CUNY Queens College. I couldn't stand Northeastern or anything about it, but now that its gone, I am having some regrets.

I can only think of the negativities of CUNY Queens and the positivities of Northeastern. The opposite was true when I was going to Northeastern.

But the main thing I am noticing is that Northeastern has a better name. I would have been majoring in Sociology and Minoring in Business at Northeastern, and at Queens I am doing accounting. I know i will get better grades as I will have more time to study, but way less fun.

No. You are probably paying a lot less now. You probably weren’t mature enough for Northeastern at the time. Just hang in there at Queens. You can always go to grad school later, or even reapply to Northeastern.

For a 4.0 high schooler to get a 1.7 at Northeastern for a semester, something had to be seriously amiss. You were probably right to bail on Northeastern, but you might want to identify the problems and do everything you can to make sure they don’t happen again at Queens.

Believe when I say that there is no “bad” college decision.
In the end, when your apply for jobs-it will depend more on job experience then if you graduated from a better school.

Sounds like you would have benefited from a smaller college. Northeastern is extremely large and can be very impersonal and business like, not your traditional college experience. I agree with others that you should just buckle down and live with your current choice and deal with it. All colleges have positives and negatives.

Success in college has more to do with YOU than the school. If you were admitted to Northeastern, its because they believed you had the mental horsepower to succeed. But that does not speak to the social issues, your maturity, your self discipline and study habits. Whatever happened is over. Turn the page and move on.

Work extremely hard at CUNY and strive for excellence in all that you do (and in life.) High school is over. Grow up. Stay focused on your studies because it will have a direct impact on finding a job. Its entirely up to you.

Some kids do pick the wrong school, often for the very wrong reasons. But mostly, its all about maturity and self discipline. You know who often makes the best students? Returning vets. Why? Because they matured in the Army (or other service) and learned discipline and how to focus on a mission and succeed regardless of the circumstances. Be like them. Forget the past. Start over and get to work.
