I applied to Rutgers Camden, Stockton, Rowan and Temple and I got in. I had to cross temple and Stockton out of the list because temple is too far and I need to commute to school since the only way I can go to school is If I work and live at home. Stockton didn’t have a Computer Science degree and that leaves me with Rutgers and Rowan, I was thinking to go to Rutgers because their curriculum looks a bit more challenging and honestly all the professors that teach me at my community college right now aren’t the best and they also teach at Rowan. Another reason I was thinking of going to Rutgers is that its closer to Philly and I hear that’s where the jobs are for me. I’m kinda lost, I’m not your traditional 20 years old who has been thinking about this stuff forever, I’m just trying to stop working at these terrible jobs and get an education of that makes sense. Am I right for wanting to go to Rutgers? I know these aren’t the BEST choices but its what I have to work with so what will give me the most opportunities? Does this decision even matter?
They are both solid options, contrary to the vibe you will get in a place like this one there is no “BEST” choice out there. You can’t go wrong with either. If you plan to go to graduate school I would say Rowan, otherwise Rutgers. Basing this only on name recognition and guessing that the grading is harder in Rutgers…
I was actually too embarrassed to say this because looking at the students here comparing insane schools with obviously better rep but another reason I wanted to go to Rutgers is that of the name it seems like its more well known but I don’t think Camden is the well known one, I’m pretty sure New Brunswick is the better rep one but either way it has the name Rutgers.
Nothing to be embarrased about my friend, on the contrary… I didn’t notice that it was Camden and not NB, I would say maybe Rowan but you can’t go wrong either way I’m sure.
It is great that you are going back to get your college education!! Both would be find choices. Make a decision and don’t look back.
Rutgers is really well regarded for CS outside of NJ. I’d lean towards them.
So I’m guessing the difference is big between the reputation Rutgers NB has and Rutgers Camden has?
I doubt it makes that much of a difference, most people I think would only see the brand name… My comment was more in reference to what I’ve read about the area/atmosphere. But again, you can’t go wrong either way. Don’t forget that, especially in technical fields, where you go to school tends to be irrelevant. It is only what you do with it that matters. Trust me, I’m am engineer and been around for quite a while…
Thank you so much for the advice and for clearing my head with doubts, I’m not too experienced with this kind of stuff and I don’t know anyone who I can ask so I appreciate it so much.
@thecodingcoder Why don’t you go to each and audit a few CS classes if you have time before May 1.
