i’m a rising junior with a prospective major in communication arts and political science. my courses the past 2 years have been social studies-heavy ( i’ve only taken honors chem + bio my freshman + sophomore year, which wouldn’t be considered anything substantial in the science dept for most students at my school) and i was planning to take ap physics this year. i made a last-minute decision and changed it to ap studio 2d… thought it’d fit my “theme” (communications) better but now my schedule doesn’t look as challenging, and heard that colleges don’t like students who don’t take physics… thoughts?
For what it’s worth, my S never took Physics and he had 12 acceptance letters to good schools this past spring, most with excellent merit aid.
Have you had any level of physics? If not, I would strongly suggest at least honors physics.
It depends on the type of colleges you are applying to as well. Have you checked the ones in which you are interested to see if they require 3+ years of science? Honestly I think taking physics could keep some more doors open for you.
Take physics. Most universities at the very lease like to see one year of bio + one year of chem + one year of physics.
Update: I probably will take physics at some point (most likely as a senior), just not as a junior. In other words, I’ll have 3 years of science.
For communication, regular physics is fine. Regular physics and APES would be better.
What’s your actual schedule?
You’d need 4 units each of English and history/social science, foreign language level 4/AP, and math through Precalculus/statistics.
ap calc bc, ap lang & comp, apush… extras include span 4, ap micro+macro, and now ofc studio. most core classes im set, i just dont want to see lame w 3 years of science.
