did i meet the priority filing deadlines? (FAFSA)

most of my schools advertise a Feb 1st priority filing deadline.
Coincidentally enough, my buffoon of a parent chose not to visit his accountant until a few days before Feb 1st, resulting in my pressing of the submittal button on 1-30

I already have my SAR (i think I do; I can access it on the FAFSA website) but i am not sure when i received it. the FAFSA claims to take approximately 3 days to process everything, so I'm really worried that my FAFSA actually didnt get "processed" until Feb 2, thereby failing to meet most Feb 1 deadlines

or is the day that you submit it considered the official filing date?
please help!

on another note, I completely left off some schools with Feb 1 deadlines that were, in my opinion, somewhat less appealing than my first 10. Now that I have the SAR (again, I think) I can delete some of the initial 10 to make room for the few that I neglected. Even then, I definitely would've failed to meet the priority filing date

any ideas?

I think you’ll be fine with the first batch. If I was you, I’d go ahead and send the FAFSA to the additional schools immediately.

Deadlines are important, but some schools will cut you a little slack. Since it doesn’t cost anything to submit the FAFSA to your other schools, what’s the harm in trying?

Please don’t call your parent names, it hurts my feelings when kids do this. It’s just SO ungrateful. Having one’s taxes done prior to 2/1 is virtually IMPOSSIBLE for most people…we don’t even HAVE all our paperwork yet. They’re not required to even be mailed until the end of January. There are other delays you can’t know about either (having a business, etc.).

However, know this…I filed FAFSA on 1/29.
I have gone back and see that most schools received it on 2/3, 2/2, 2/4 etc.
But the SUBMITTED date also shows up (1/29).
Reading that report, you’ll see that it specifically says “if you submitted prior to the deadline your report will be considered on time”.

So - yes, you submitted prior to 2/1 - you are ON TIME for those schools.
NO worries.
I can’t say whether your other reports will be on time. But I WOULD send them. There is no reason not too.

hey R124687

pardon my ignorance but how do you check if colleges got them?

Some colleges will show that information on their websites. Many, however, do not. Or even more commonly, they receive the processed FAFSA information but don’t download it for awhile, so it won’t show up as received. We filed my daughter’s in January last year. It showed up as received on the website in late March.

I think you can assume it was processed and made available to the school by FAFSA.

If that information is not available to you on the schools website, and you’re really insecure about it, then you could try calling each school and asking.
