Did I mess up too much?

Hi, I’m a junior in high school. I’ve been getting A’s and the occasion B my entire school career until this year. I was sick a lot towards the middle and second half of the year, so I was absent a lot. I began to stay home to try to catch up, but the school work kept building up. I made some stupid decisions and stayed home, refusing to go to school. I think the anxiety got to me and I was sort of depressed about the whole thing. I felt like I failed and screwed up any chances to go to any sort of good college.

Anyway, my school let me do homebound instruction to finish out the remainder of the year. I didn’t really care at that point so that’s what I’ve done. My question now is what should I do to fix my GPA and actually have a chance with colleges? What should I do over the summer? I thought about doing some classes at local community colleges over the summer, but I’ve missed the deadline for them. Any advice about the whole matter would be really appreciated.

A rising junior? If so you have 1.5 years to pull things out. Just do well in junior year and first semester senior year. Take challenging classes.

No, i’m a rising senior. What do you recommend? Should I maybe take a year off after high school?

What is your cum GPA? What are your scores?

I’m not sure what my cumulative gpa as of right now, I’m getting in contact with my guidance counselor and will let you know

cum GPA is 3.76, SAT is 1360, APs are Lang - 5, APUSH - 5, and Bio 4

Is that GPA unweighted or weighted, and what schools are you applying to?

its weighted, and im applying to Pittsburgh, Penn state, and Drexel

Also, I am still taking challenging classes this year, Ap lit, ap us gov, ap physics c, and ap calc BC. Does that help with my chances? I’m doing fairly well in my classes this time around

I would have your GC explain in their recommendation letter about your health issues and how they affected your grades and also that your health issues have resolved.
I would put all my effort into my classes (forget clubs, etc) and make sure I had good first quarter/semester grades and share those with your colleges. That will show them you can excel in college level work.

ok, that sounds good. So are you suggesting I wait to apply until after the first quarter is over?
