Hi all, I know commonapp says to submit your application by midnight in YOUR TIME ZONE. I did this yesterday, but since I live in the midwest, the application i submitted at 11:30 PM was apparently submitted on january 2nd ET. will colleges know that i submitted the app on time in CT, or will they just see the jan 2nd ET timestamp?
No way to know how colleges will feel about that. Some may be lenient regardless of time zones. I do hope you learned a lesson about leaving things to the last minute.
You should email the school and explain this to them many will be considerate of this! Higher ranked and more selective schools will have tighter policies on this though
You’ll be fine.
The time stamp is EST.
But the deadline was in your time zone. It says all that on the Common App website.
You should be fine.
so do they look at the common app timestamp, and adjust for your time zone? because in this case, someone who submitted 9:15 PM january 1st in California would have a jan 2nd timestamp in common app, and thus be late?
@BurntKnight , my son encountered this issue yesterday (a 1/2 EST timestamp on an application that was due on 1/1, although we live in a different time zone than the school). It freaked my son out for a minute, but the Common App website clearly states the time zone of the applicant is the applicable time zone for purposes of admission deadlines and also says that the date stamp may not correspond. My son submitted at 10:30 pm in California and got a confirming email that his app had been received although it was after midnight EST. Good luck!
Right. They adjust the timestamp for your time zone; it just doesn’t appear that way to the applicant.
@pickledginger @bjkmom thanks so much for clarifying
if your app went through, it should be fine
