Did i need to sign up for selective service on order to get any financial aid?

Hello, I am 26 years old and recently discovered Selective Services. I don’t remember my high school mentioning it and my parents didn’t know what it was. I went for my undergrad during age 17-22. I applied for FAFSA each year and can’t remember if I checked the box for selective service.

My question is that, would I have kept receiving FAFSA all those years if I wasn’t signed up for selective service? I checked online and my status was “inconclusive” and I’m planning on calling Monday and getting more information. BUt would I have gotten financial aid all those years if I hadn’t been registered for selective service ?

The records system doesn’t sync up well. No you shouldn’t have received federal FA if you weren’t registered but it doesn’t mean you wouldn’t get it. Maybe you did check the box that you were registered but something in the system isn’t working.

Do follow up because you have to register by 26 for a lot of things, like getting a government job.

You don’t receive anything from FAFSA. It is simply an application.
