I applied to my top choice today! When it asked for my GPA I calculated it according to how the school says they do. 9th-11th grade classes only, honors points (weight) are awarded to classes designated "honors, advanced placement, and IB" for up to eight semesters.

Although on the app, which wasn't only for the school but for an entire system of universities, it said something about 10th,11th, and 12th grade GPA. The school is Cal Poly, and it is the only CSU school which includes freshman GPA--so I included that, even though it was on the general CSU app.

There are two reasons why I'm nervous. One is because it is a little different at my school, they don't weight honors classes and my weighted GPA with my school is 3.89 and with Cal Poly it is 3.97. Second, I should be okay because I included freshman GPA correct, the school DOES use it I know that. It said it was my unofficial calculated GPA and everything and my official GPA would be in my transcript that I send them. Will I be okay, I'm freaking out because I don't want to be denied based on a miscalculation or percieved "misrepresentation" for my unofficial GPA.

IMO, if you have a question this specific, you should really contact Cal Poly. I haven’t found a list of admissions officers on their admissions page (which is really not that helpful a page), but there is this address:

I think you should call and ask to speak to the admissions person who handles your geographical area.

My D is a current Freshman at Cal Poly. Although I can not answer your question directly I can tell you that each and every time she or I called CP through the entire admissions cycle I always spoke to a helpful, knowledgeable and friendly individual. They also respond to emails withing 24 hours - and often by end of business on day email was sent.

I urge you to give them a call!

My child applied to CP today also. She used her current transcript which has 9-11 classes only. She took out PE etc and only counted a-g courses. With that academic 9-11 gpa, she then added the 8 maximum extra points for honors and AP courses taken only in 11th grade and divided by number of courses. She entered her “weighted gpa”.

If I am understanding you correctly, that is what you did. I think you are fine. Obviously, you can’t count 12th grade yet, and Cal Poly does look at 9th grade grades, so you should be good.

Yes that is exactly what I did. Only 8 extra points, 9th-11th. The only reason I’m worried is because it doesn’t equal the same GPA on my transcript. I will call them on monday just to make sure.
