Did I royally screw up my chances at Brown?

I love Brown, it is my first choice school. The environment, the students…everything about it fits me perfectly. My interview went great–he told me I was an excellent fit at Brown. All my essays were awesome as well. However, I am afraid that the issue I am about to explain ended it for me.

For those of you familiar with the QuestBridge program, to be considered for its benefits, you need to write a bunch of supplemental essays. My counselor told me about it the week before the due date, so I essentially didn’t have time to meticulously craft my essays to make them the best as they could have been.

I got rejected from the program (couldn’t find another teacher for my second recommendation, so my app was incomplete.)
Come early December, Brown sends me an email saying they would waive they fee if I submitted my QB app. Me, being the idiot I am, submitted it (with the bad essays.)

I submitted the Commonapp later (before the Jan 1 deadline) so I could have that considered instead. I spent time on the main essay (8 drafts) and the Brown supplements were written pretty well, as I said before. So I email them telling them to disregard the QB app I submitted as that didn’t reflect my efforts in the essays. All they say is that my request will “be noted in my file”.

Does this spell a sure-fire rejection? I don’t know why they didn’t tell me they could remove it immediately but instead told me that they would note it in my file. I am extremely worried.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the lack of immediate action. As an Ivy League university that receives over 30,000 applications every year–and at the height of the admissions season–they can’t really address this issue right away. The fact that it’s “noted in your file” probably means that they will look at it when they get to it, but they don’t have time to deal with it sooner/separately.

@theoriginalclone Should I call on Monday, then?

I would not overwhelm them with calls and emails about this issue. It sounds like they might decide to evaluate your essays but with the understanding that you don’t believe they represent your best work. You can’t really force them to remove materials from your file, and I think by calling them you would only call more attention to the essays.

@Sam998 So would they have the general notion that all my essays aren’t my best work? Because that’s certainly not the case for my CommonApp… And I agree, I shouldn’t contact them further.

I don’t think there’s anything that you can do about it at this point. Best to just wait until Thursday. Know that whatever the result, you did everything that you could, and eventually did put forth the best picture of yourself.

@mg29409 I don’t see why they would get that impression as long as your email was specific to your QuestBridge essays.
