Did I ruin my chances for an Ivy League?

Got a B this semester for the first time in my high school career. I'm super broken up about it, especially since I was only .5% away from an A. ):

Did I ruin my chances to get into an ivy league? More specifically, Stanford? Other non-ivy universities I've been looking at are UC Berkeley, USC, and UCLA. I haven't gotten my SAT scores back yet.

Also, does anyone know if semester grades average out? Or will the B go towards my GPA immediately? It probably varies from school to school, but I just thought I'd ask. Thanks!!

No, don’t worry! One B doesn’'t ruin your chance.

Your ECs? GPA? Awards? How good are your essays?

@paul2572 you’re busy? Ok lol.

A B won’t do much to affect your chances.

English is my favorite subject, writing in particular, so I’d say my essays are pretty good. I don’t have any awards as of right now. I’m not too sure what ECs are, although I’m assuming extracurricular activities? If so, I sing and have been in a few big local shows (about 2000 in audience per night for 3 nights). Nothing other than that at the moment. Thanks for your reply!

Most colleges only see your end of the year grades. I know my school only calculates GPA with end of the year grades anyway

OP, one B won’t matter if everything else is fantastic.

By the way, Stanford is not an Ivy League school.

Ah, my mistake! I was misinformed. Still interested in going to an Ivy League, though.

The rule of thumb is that you “don’t want to be able to spell anything with your grades.” One B won’t kill you–make up for it by showing off a little more awesomeness in other areas.
