Hi guys,
I am a prospective transfer student to USC for Fall 2016, and I had to drop a class that satisfies my Quantitative Analysis GE. I applied to Annenberg, and the class that I dropped was College Algebra, so it is not related to my major - but it did cover for the minimum math requirement, since it was one step above of intermediate algebra, the true minimum math requirement.
So now that I have a W (my only W), will it look terrible? I had a 4.0 in 15 units my first semester here at a California community college, and I am on route to get another 4.0 for this semester here. Once this school year is over, I will have completed all but 3 of USC’s GEs (2 of which I am forced to take at Dornsife anyways).
My biggest concern is that I applied as a sophomore applicant, and I know that if an applicant has less than 30 units, he or she will be reviewed heavily on their high school transcript and SAT scores. Will this apply to me as well, even though I am only 2 units short of the minimum of 30? My highschool GPA was pretty shitty, only a 3.4, with only 7 AP classes and 3 honors classes, and my SAT score is terrible for USC standards (1640). My second biggest concern, which may end up being my biggest concern, is that I do not even have the minimum math requirement. Does this mean that I cannot transfer to USC by default? I had strong Algebra grades in high school and passed my school’s honor’s pre-calculus class, so can these grades be used as a substitute for USC’s minimum math requirement? Intermediate algebra is essentially Algebra II, and I had a math class one step higher than it in high school, so I would hope that it can take its place.
Thanks in advance!
