Did I Ruin My Chances?

So I have a huge dilemma. I applied early decision to the University of Pennsylvania without subject test scores. Today I took two subject tests and I know that I didn’t break 700 on either. I have a 2310 superscore so how will 2 scores of let’s say 680 affect me? I’m willing to retake in January so should I change my application to Penn from early decision to regular decision? I’m applying to CAS if that changes anything. Thanks

The two subject tests are optional and there is no guarantee that you will score better the second time around. And by applying regular decision (possibly with no or weaker SATIIs), you lose the edge that comes from applying ED (essentially the boost to the school that if they admit you, they are assured of your acceptance, which helps their selectivity rating). So don’t submit your SATII scores and see what happens. If you retake in January and happen to do very well, you can use those scores to apply to other top choice schools. I

@N’s Mom – Penn requires all scores. OP must submit the subject test scores or else risk disciplinary action should it be found out that he/she omitted them.

@OP – nothing you can do now. Send the scores, and be fine with whatever happens. Who knows, maybe you did better on the tests than you think.

On Penn’s website, it says very clearly that the subject scores are optional. http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/apply/freshman-admission/checklist

Thank you both! I will retake in January depending on my scores and hope for the best with Penn.

You can do score choice for subject tests since they are not required.

How do you KNOW that you didn’t break 700? On my Math II SAT subject test, I didn’t finish. Left off on question 45 when time was up. Was so sure I didn’t do well-and ended up with an 800. I also ended up leaving quite a few blank on US history-although that wasn’t a timing issue and still ended up with an 800. So you never know-maybe you did better than you think!
