the website says

"Early Decision applicants who are admitted to Johns Hopkins and who applied to but were not admitted to the BME major at that time will be allowed to apply to and consider offers of admission from other institutions. Students in this circumstance only will be released from the obligation to matriculate at Johns Hopkins under the original conditions of the Early Decision Plan. Such candidates must still reply to Johns Hopkins' offer of admission by the January 15 deadline."

i think the january 15th used to say may 1st, right? did it change? does this mean if we dont get bme, it's either a yes or no by january 15th?

thanks

No it hasn’t changed. Why would it be may first, that totally makes no sense. ED gets their choice by Dec 15. You will know if you got in way before Jan 15. Look at what Jan 15 is. It’s the required day for ED applicants to reply. All that says is that if you apply to BME and don’t get in. You can apply to other schools but you have to notify JHU by 15 like every other ED student.

Yes, that policy has changed.

There’s a source from when I was applying to colleges and it reads:

Early Decision applicants who are admitted to Johns Hopkins but who are not admitted to the BME major at that time will be allowed to apply to and consider offers of admission from other institutions. The commitment to matriculate at Johns Hopkins if accepted is null and void in this circumstance. Such candidates have until May 1 to reply to Johns Hopkins’ offer of admission.

They used to basically consider you an RD admit if you got in ED but without BME. I could speculate as to why this policy was changed.

why did they change it??

Well I guess the obvious point is that now JHU expects you to know if you want to enroll or not by January 15 if you’re admitted to their engineering school.

You can’t hold that Early offer to the engineering school longer than anyone else who is admitted Early. Either you want to go to JHU or you don’t.

Seems fair to me that all accepted Early students have to let them know by Jan 15.
