did mich really read your essay?

i was discussing umich the other day with my friend who also applied. i mentioned how i thought that all three of my essays were very strong and how i hoped that they would strengthen my application with a whole.
she replied with: "what? are you kidding? michigan doesnt read essays! everyone knows its all about numbers!"
this shocked me b/c every admission counselor i have had any interaction with have emphasized their "extensive and through admission process" which DOES include a reading of ALL the essays.

what do you guys think? any thoughts? i really hope they read mine :/

I've worked in the admissions office while they read applicants' essays.

Michigan definitely reads essays. Essays are not as important as they are to smaller, private elites, but they are still important.

Hell Yes ! I would even go into what extent. There defentily not the UCs who disregard them.

They definitely read your essays. However, not much weight is put on them. Especially if you are a strong student number-wise. If you are borderline, however, a good essay will help.
