Does this mean that I got rejected already?!!? Anyone in the past who didn't get it but got into UCLA?

Well, since only the top 1.5% of applicants get the application for this, and since UCLA admits roughly 20% of applicants, somehow another 18.5% of applicants are admitted and have to pay full price in order the bankroll this financial black hole we call a public school. I, for one, am one of those very few who help this school struggle to stay alive financially.

Most people don’t get these e-mails.

We didn’t get it either.

Technically, every student is a financial black hole for the university except OOS students. It’s just how big of a black hole you are. -.-

no worries. it doesn’t mean anything!

I didn’t get a Regents or an Alumni email, but the alumni network from UCLA did call me. Did they call everyone or just a select few?!?!

^I also got a call.

On a 2009 thread, one person said the alumni person who called him said the top 10% of all applicants get a call.

Hopefully that is true! I asked the lady if this call from the alumni network had any indication of admission but she said no. But hopefully she was lying haha :)

Did any internationals get the alumni scholarship thing (email or call, whatever)? I didn’t get a Regents or Alumni email… =(

The Freshman Alumni Scholarship is only open to US citizens or legal residents graduating from a California HS. See [Freshman Alumni Scholarships | UCLA Alumni](http://alumni.ucla.edu/scholarships/apply/freshman.aspx)
It looks like there also are Alumni scholarship for out of state students. See [Out-of-State Scholarships | UCLA Alumni](http://alumni.ucla.edu/scholarships/apply/out-of-state.aspx). However, it sounds like those application do not go out till after a student has been accepted to UCLA. No mention of internationals, though.

I have no idea about the Regents scholarship.

“Hopefully that is true! I asked the lady if this call from the alumni network had any indication of admission but she said no. But hopefully she was lying”.

I hope she was lying too. Otherwise, it really wouldn’t make sense. Why encourage some, but not all students to apply for a UCLA merit scholarship (with a Feb. 15 app. due date) if those students haven’t been placed on the shortlist of applicants? They could have easily included the Alumni scholarship on the list of scholarships that could be applied for during the UC application process.

I am going to be optimistic and say that these emails/ calls are UC versions of likely letters.

Speechless and dignified, are you guys out of state students?

I’m instate but I got a call a couple an hour ago from the alumni association telling me to apply for the scholarship.

I got a call earlier, and I wish I was better prepared for it because now I have a bunch of questions to ask haha. I asked the Alumni Scholar how many people received a call and she only said “a lot” and I think alone she has called a couple of hundred of people. I don’t think getting a call is a great indication of acceptance, since it seems like many people get it, but I certainly hope I’m wrong.

I got the alumni e-mail 3 weeks ago and the phone call Friday night, but not the Regents’ e-mail.
My mom took the phone call and asked the student volunteer if it was a good sign. He told her it didn’t mean anything, that they will be calling all applicants since the scholarship deadline is before the date when you learn about decisions.

Wow.

To OP: No. Alumni or Regents email is not an indicator of acceptance. Regents doesn’t email, unless times have changed. I highly doubt that though.
To everyone else: No, they call basically everyone. Doesn’t mean anything. Scholarships aren’t connected to admission, no matter how likely you’d want it to be. Trust me, I’ve been there, too!

It is possible to get invited to compete for Regents and still be rejected from this school.

I’m currently a Regents scholar at UCLA. Had to log in just for this thread. Haha.

^ The invitation to apply for the Regents scholarship was sent via e-mail. Can you explain why the FA website says that the top 1.5% of applicants are invited to apply for Regents if it has no connection to one’s chances of getting admitted?

Getting a Regents scholarship invitation is an indicator of acceptance, but not a final/official one. If you don’t get it, it doesn’t mean you’re rejected.

I have a friend who works with alumni association the alumni scholarship/email/phone call is no indication of acceptance or rejection. Regents scholarship is different.
