Did not get into UF is community college an option

i was thinking would i have a good chance at transfering to UF if i got an AA from a comunity college or can i jus go to FSU for a few years then try and transfer what would be the easier route oh and do to dual enrollment i would need less the a school year to get the AA

Please, just go to FSU and transfer later if you're that desperate. Don't put yourself through community college.

i heard is it much more difficult to transfer from a university to UF than a comm college to UF. which is why i am considering the comm college route, no matter how much it hurtsme that that will be all i have to show for four years in ib.

i always here of people oging to Santa Fe and then transfering to UF

There have been several newspaper articles in the Orlando Sentinel recently that the flagship U's are not going to be accepting as many AA transfer as before because of the whole budget crunch thing ... making it more difficult to get into your fave school in this manner. Administrators are saying that the AA guarantees you the chance at A university in Florida, just not necessarily the one you'd want as your first choice.

check it out well because I think there are (or there will be) new restrictions on commcoll transfers to UF (zebes got a little ahead of me on this one).

Unless you live in Tallahassee and want to go away to school I don't see the logic of going to FSU for 2 years, then transferring to UF. I can also see going to commcoll where you live, then transferring.

IMO, people apply to different schools they would like to attend in order to increase their chances of going some place that is acceptable. Those are your choices. Once you apply and give each school your best shot, it's out of your hands, and you have to live with the adcoms decision. Plan A didn't work out, then you go to Plan B. And stick to it.

If you want some perspective look up this thread:

"Your school is extremely elitist/stuck-up"

Zebes is correct. In the past, if you received your AA with decent grades and required prereqs for your major from Santa Fe CC you would normally have no trouble transferring to UF. Many people like to be part of the Gainesville atmosphere as close to UF as possible even though they are not accepted to the University. With the current budget situation, transfer admission may not be a guarantee anymore just like hs graduation from IB does not necessarily guarantee admission to UF.

Community College is less expensive than university tuition and the classes will be smaller for the most part. If you attend the closest one to your home, you could avoid the room and board expense but miss out on the experience of living away on your own. Some students attending CC will not be nearly up to your level of academic motivation and others will be adults refreshing their skills and many will be in the same boat as you.

I would revisit all of your other university admission options, especially ones that offered significant scholarship money and have the major you want with a nice college atmosphere. If you end up happy at your second choice, so much the better and if not, good luck on transferring after you receive your AA degree. Make sure you are taking all the prereqs required for your major at UF.

I know you feel hurt and your ego is bruised but get on with making a decision that may end up with a situation much better for you in the long run.

I have heard that it is easier transferring from community college, especially Santa Fe, than from a public 4 YEAR University. Here is why... because when you get an associates degree from a CC you have NOWHERE else to go so you HAVE to transfer if you want a bachelors. Remember that when you transfer, you transfer through the state university system (which we have 1 of) and they see all universities as roughly equal; where a transfer applying from a university has ALREADY been granted in an opportunity for a 4 year education, the purpose of transferring from a CC. I am not saying that transferring from a Univ into UF would be impossible, but without argument you would have an easier time if you went to a CC, did amazing, and transferred from there.

This is exactly like it is in California, where I used to live. The Univ systems (they have 2, California State and Univ of California) clearly stressed that nearly all of their transfers are from CC and that transferring from the CSU system to the more prestigious UC system is not "fair" because CSU's already have the opportunity to get a Bachelors degree.

Yes, but it doesn't say anywhere that you'll be able to transfer to the flagship and new rules will not make it any easier. It's their way of establishing a feeding pattern for all the other ones.

I know one student who transferred successfully for Fall '07 from FSU to UF and I know another student who was unsuccessful in transferring from UF to FSU for Fall '08. Both had excellent grades. The budget issue has thrown a real curve ball into the equation so it is difficult to predict what could happen.

FYI:

SFCC & CC transfers are being reduced substantially because of Budget Constraints. Blame the Legislature, not UF...

Here, I'll give it to you nice and simply since I'm somebody who actually did this.

UF takes preference to transfer students who have AA degrees from community colleges in Florida. They get FIRST preference. THEN they look at transfer students from other universities in the state. It used to be relatively easy to get accepted if you have good grades, but now they're starting to become more selective to transfer students in general, so if you keep your GPA really high and go to a CC, you should get in just fine. Just make sure the program you want to major in is not limited access because if it is, you need to make sure you fulfill the pre-reqs for it or else UF won't take you. You don't get into your major- You don't get into the college.
