Hi,
I received this email from the UCSD admissions office:
Thank you for applying to the University of California San Diego. We are requesting some additional information from you to complete the review of your application.
You’ll be asked to enter the email address used on your application and your UC Application ID number, which is: *******
Your response should take no more than five minutes to complete.
You must submit your response by Monday, January 30, 2017. The website will be unavailable after that date.
I have not opened this email until recently (email was sent Jan 26) due to the bombardment of college emails but since I did not submit this, would it be too late to do anything? Will this end up as a rejection to UCSD?
I am sorry to say that you might have just earned a rejection.
You can try emailing the regional rep. Explain that due to a virus your computer is just recently up and running and you saw this email. You would be grateful if they would still accept your additional information. CC the general admission office email. Or see if you can still complete and submit it now, then send an explanatory email. Maybe you will get lucky.
For other readers, some colleges do check to see if emails have been opened and portals have been checked. If you really are interested in a particular college, don’t neglect your emails.
At this point all you can do is send it ASAP via email or fax (maybe contact admissions to ask the best way to send the information). Be sure to include the UC Application number they provided.
I would not lie and say you had a computer virus (even if your computer was down one can get emails by phone, from another computer in the home or school etc.) – but a note to the regional rep saying 1) you just saw the email and you replied as soon as possible although it was after the deadline and 2) apologizing for the delay would be in order.
I certainly agree with @Lindagaf that anyone with applications still standing should be checking portals as well as emails (including spam folder) regularly.
