Did really bad on the ACT!

(3)Last Full ACT Practice:
E:32,M:29,R:28,S:28 = C:29
(4)Last Full ACT Practice:
E:34,M:34,R:30,S:31 = C:32
(5)Last Full ACT Practice:
E:33,M:34,R:26,S:21 = C:29 ->>Mental burn out maybe?

Actual ACT:
E:30,M:34,R:22,S:30 = C:29

English:As you can see, I did REALLY bad on the real ACT. For the English section in particular, I put a lot more dashes than usual next to answers I'm unsure about.

Math:The math section, however, felt quite easy. It felt like I've seen many of the questions before. However, I'm afraid I might have made simple mistakes on the easy questions due to myself trying to maintain a high pace (I finished with enough time to check over the difficult answers(eventually solving them all!)).

Reading:I read the prose passage. Then I read the next passage and I just felt like I was screwed. I couldn't answer the questions and I was going way too slow. I could even tell I was going slow because a proctor kept looking at me... By the time 5 minutes left was called, I had to complete 15 questions(needed to read the last passage too) lol.

Science:I usually do really well on this section, but I'm horrible at Biology. I didn't understand like 1 or 2 questions and for some reason didn't even bother to read the information for them. However, I saw REAL SCIENCE terminology questions that I haven't learned.. I finished this section really quickly, however.

Writing:I didn't know what I was doing. I'm really bad at writing too. Got a 9/12.

How can I increase my scores? For English I'm reading the Silver turtle guide to improve my grammar. For math I'm probably going to retake all the ACT practice tests for them. For Science, I'm probably going to RE-take ACT practice tests for them too.

I really don't know what I can do for Reading as I've exhausted my ACT practice tests (I probably don't remember what the readings were about, though). I just don't know how to improve my reading score. Would speed reading help?

First off, lets have a little reality check. Your score of 29 put you in 93rd percentile of all kids who took the ACT. You did not do “REALLY” bad like you think. I know on these forums it seems like everyone has 33+ on the ACT but CC is not an accurate representation of all high school students, obviously.

Anyways. Your “problem” was your reading score. Might have just been an unlucky time to take it and you got a hard passage. Your reading scores in your practice tests have been much higher so I think it was a mixture of bad luck + nerves. There are different strategies to approach the reading section. You can read a paragraph or two and then answer a few questions, then read another paragraph or two, etc. In theory by the time you’ve finished the passage you’ve answered all but maybe one or two summarizing questions.

Reading more will help…
