They wouldn’t go into my specifics… because they said they were not going to change it or add to it. =/

Anyway what is new and compelling info really mean?

Indian I don’t think its like awards and stuff, because that is something they can put in application. They said it has to be something from personal life. Its probably something that was good or bad that happened to you and changed you in some way.

The Legend how many points did you have? I checked your posts lol and I think you had the same SAT II’s (740 math IIC and 680 Chemistry). You’re pre med too right? haha

This is a post from an earlier appeal thread:

They give me all their admissions stats and stuff and how they had to turn down good students, etc… Then for my application, I was at like 7595, the cut off was like 7744. I got points for my GPA, SAT’s, some summer stuff, some leader ship, some special stuff. I don’t think they gave FULL points in the EC categories such as special, summer, cs, etc… I think I got a little of each which is what held me back. But the guy said, looking up and down, the GPA was the biggest factor holding me back… (■■■). He also said Major did not matter and the decisions were independent of all UC’s, so CC was right on that.

So, anyway, with that point total, did I even have a realistic chance? I knew my GPA was going to screw me over. That was the easiest to control… =(

btw I applied Undeclared

Using the rubric from 2004

[UCSD Freshman Comprehensive Review Process (Dec 2004)](UCSD Freshman Comprehensive Review Process (Dec 2004))

They were clearly wrong about
- My GPA (up to 8 hnrs points)
- Low income (less than 60,000)
- Personal struggle (single parent household)

thus giving me enough points for admission. I still don’t understand how they could have possibly screwed up this bad… I can’t find anything different on the application I submitted. Either I screwed up or they’re using an entirely different rubric.

Abraham, so first off, the UC GPA that you had calculated is correct @ 3.91.
3.911000+(1920+660+650).8=6494 alone based on stats
6494+150+250=6890 which includes single household and income.
You also said that you yourself included 150 for leadership for sports, however the rubric states that you must have two minor roles to qualify for 150; co/captain alone is not enough.
Even if, say, you got max points for A-G eligibility and for community hours, your total would only come out to be 7690.
Also, note that the rubric is very subjective and what you give yourself may not agree with what the total points the adcom assigns to you. On a side note, what were your essays about? Did it specifically mention any of your described hardships?

I did, infact qualify for the 150 for leadership. Admissions officer told me. Also 150 for community service. The first essay was specifically about my house being a single parent household as my father was overseas conducting business for around 360/365 days a year. Thank you for the analysis though.

Did you happen to qualify for the a-g 500 points? Just wondering. That rubric up there should still be right, I personally doubt they’d radically change anything on it. At least not without everyone making note of it.

From what I recall, I either got 250 or 500. I’m not sure but they can’t be wrong about that part so I’m not concerned about it.

Called UCSD again, apparently this admissions officer told me that my UC GPA was in fact correct at a 3.91 on the application. He also told me that my test scores and GPA were in fact very competitive. Why are different admissions officers telling me different things? The one a week ago said 3.6 and points in every category but low income and personal struggle. This one told me that the only points I was considered for was LOW INCOME. Nothing for leadership, or my extensive community service. Honestly, UCSD is a total mystery to me. Absolutely confused.

I’m stamping this so called comprehensive review with a big BS.

Low income points are only fully rewarded to students that fall below poverty line.
