Did this essay deserve a 12

I was shocked by my essay score from May, seeing as I thought my essay would be a 10 or 11 if I was lucky. Did I get a 12 by luck? Like what if the essays read right before mine were awful, so my essay seemed great? Would I likely get the same score in October if my essay demonstrated the same mastery of the topic, or was this just a fluke? thanks

Think carefully about the issue presented in the following excerpt and the assignment:

Most of us tend to find rules, limits, and restraints irritating. We want to be free of anything that limits our choices. But limitations protect us. Without limitations on our behavior, too many of us will act without regard to the consequences for ourselves, for others, and for the future. Limitations contribute to, rather than take away from, our overall happiness.

ASSIGNMENT: Do rules and limitations contribute to a person's happiness? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.*

that was pretty good! I think it deserved at LEAST an 11,

10 on a bad day, and 12 on a good day.

I found some of your adjectives to be too “flowery” (awful, gruesome, etc) without adding much substance to the essay, but maybe that’s how you are supposed to write these. However, I did find your example and detail in Warren Buffet’s life (7,500 people were cut…) to be superb and would have me tend towards an 11 or 12. Also having such a strong example at the end probably had a lasting effect on the reader which is why you also got a 12, so good paragraph structure assisted you :). The 12 was not a mistake. Good job!
