Did we just mess up any chances for fin aid?

My son is applying EA to a school that wants all the fin aid stuff done Nov. 1. We have looked and mostly filled out the school's form, but we were going to do the CSS Profile tomorrow evening.

Today in the mail we received a CSS Profile info sheet where it says that the Profile must be filled out 2 weeks before the earliest date when it is needed. So we should have filled it out last Monday at the latest. Gulp!

Assuming that it does indeed take the Profile folks two weeks to process the form, our Profile will be 4 days late. Is this a catastrophe, or just an "oh well..."? Is there any mercy for parents who do not think of fin aid forms in early October?

Since my son cannot attend without financial aid, is there any point in his applying still?

(Yes, I'm grumpy about this...)

It's not the end of the world. Call the school and let them know.

We had the same issue a couple of years ago...almost missed the priority deadline for EA students. We called the school...the Profile was submitted before the deadline by about a week. They had no problem with that....but you should call the college YOUR kiddo is applying to, and ask.

I think we had trouble with one state school that required the profile. Like you, we didn't realize the deadline to submit the info was really a week or so BEFORE the posted deadline. Very frustrating. But all the other schools received the Profile quicker than we expected and there was no problem. You can keep track of how long it takes and when the school gets the info. Can't remember if you can submit the info online but if so, that would be the way to go. Mailing anything takes much longer.

My ED choice states Nov 1 as the "Deadline for submitting CSS Financial Aid PROFILE Registration and Application". That to me means submitting it to the collegeboard. It does not say that the school has to have received the data by Nov 1.

The Student Guide on the Profile website says that students have to register for the Profile two weeks before the earliest priority filing date for their schools-- are you sure that that's not what the Profile sheet was telling you?

tphssenior, my son thought that about Yale but when he called them, they told him to do it THAT night because they expected to RECEIVE it by that date. SO confusing.

Okay, I think I have the same problem. ED deadline is Nov 1 - and I'm still working on the profile ! I'd better call the school on Monday. I think they said it is okay to fax it - if I have to it'll go FedEx !! I'm a small business owner, so projecting 2007 and 2008 is really difficult.

I called Profile a few days ago with a different question. However, I did ask them about deadlines. The woman told me that if Profile is due at the school by Nov 15th then it would need to be submitted by Nov 14th, 11:59pm in order to be considered on time. She stated that the schools require you to have them submitted to Profile (not the school) by the deadline.

I hope this helps.

I'm going to call the ED school on Monday - they said IN OFFICE on Nov 1 - and if CSS hasn't "processed" it yet, you're not meeting the deadline. But I am also confused because for some reason the business/farm supplement has to be submitted hard copy....I got most of the numbers finalized last night, so I'm in pretty good shape.
