Really bad first semester grades.. I dont think im even getting a 3.0

A few factors really killed my grades. My roomies girlfriend was over during finals week so they were screwing around and kicking me out of my room when i had to study. Then I Couldve had a B- in Politics but I had the choice of taking the final or not taking it and ofcourse I took it to try and improve my grade and I dropped cuz it was a hard final lol

Now I basically gotta ace my classes to bring it up to a decent grade average.. sigh.

Final grades came in yesterday: A,B,C in classes respectively. Final graduation GPA IS 2.78 Good luck to me on a job. w00t for fun times. Someone tell FenderGirl aka Julie to im me later. Like after the weekend. I make up names for people who don't give me names. Holla sunshine LOL. Hopefully the snow will let up and I can buy proper gifts.

AFireInside... wtf is you're roomie thinking? That's horrible.

At my school you cannot be kicked out of your room, but people definitely voluntarily leave for significant others to spend a night or two, but during finals? No way that should happen, you should definitely have your room during the most important time of the semester.

AFireInside- sorry, gotta speak from the roomie's girlfriend side, since I constantly worry about annoying my boyfriend's roommate(fortunately he only uses his room for sleeping because 1. he's an actual math genius and 2. he studies in the lounge with the other geniuses) but did you tell your roommate you needed the room to study? I suppose it's a harder situation if she doesn't go to your school but I can't imagine that if you'd asked they wouldn't have left you alone... no-one wants to be responsible for your bad grades.

depends on the school you go to and how hard you want to work. I did next to no work this quarter for my one real class and came out with a B... and I go to Stanford... but it was a humanities class, and when I did work I worked really really really hard. And I'm taking a chem class next quarter, which will be a lot harder to do little work and get a B in. But mostly I just do no studying, get no sleep and spend my life on extracurriculars and socializing. So I don't think it's that hard. YAY COLLEGE. :-D

I worked pretty hard and got straight A's. College is just as easy as high school. As long as you work hard, you will do well. I even loaded up on advanced classes and took 18 units. YAY STANFORD!

I'm pretty sure if I chose to attend Caltech or MIT I'd still get straight A's. My friend, who has the same skill levels as me, got straight A's at Caltech. So it's doable at any college.

It depends on the person. I'm a freshmen at Georgetown, and it is a hell of a lot harder than high school. HS was not as competitive and it was easy to BS and get straight As. Not here.

Freshmen get a pass/fail for their frist semester at MIT, but my friend who goes there says he would have gotten straight A's had he been on a letter grade basis. The transition from high school to college isn't as tough as some people say.

It's all relatively subjective. For me i found it alittle more difficult than highschool, but then i was taking classes at the local 4yr university in my senior year.

Some people have different opinion. In general be prepared to put in more effort than you did in highschool.

collegeperson, I agree with you on the most part. However, it is pretty subjective like hnbui said, so depending on the institution and the persons background, the transition can be no problem to difficult. At MIT, more people have problems transitioning, so we have our pass/no record thing. However, some people that are just really smart and/or had a really good high school background have no problem transitioning even at MIT. Sounds like your friend was one of those lucky ones!

You know what, im probably gonna be the only real person in this message board. and when you ask me what i got this semester, my reply is, " i don't wanna talk about it." there ya go kids, a more realistic response.

umm how is that being real. Would a real person respond on a forum stating that "he/she doesn't want to talk about it" No A real person who didn't want to talk about their grades would not even post a response on this thread.

I really didn't get your post croberts532, although I didn't find it as inflamatory as hnbui did, but I do believe this thread is innocent and worth replying to. I do believe that would be the "realistic response" of someone who didn't do that well. I suppose I just started this thread to see how others are doing after HS and to see how tough grading is, since a great number of students on CC are pretty smart. Hopefully you didn't get below a 3.00 rob.
