Did you buy kitchen supplies to bring to your dorm/apartment?

How much did you pay and where can i get a good deal on bundle or set? Thanks!

Also, side question, do most students cook their own meals, or only the ones who live in apartments?

My mom’s kitchen cabinets. She needs new supplies more than I do.

In a dorm, you likely won’t need much at all, if anything (assuming you’re on a meal plan).

The dollar store offers a surprising array of cheap but functional kitchen supplies.

Dorm: Bring a cup, bowl, plate, and some silverware. You won’t need more than that, and you probably won’t be cooking much.

Apartment basics: Pot, pan, 1-2 plates/bowls, silverware, cups, can opener, cooking utensils (spoon, spatula), strainer (if you like pasta), cutting board and a knife

Remember that if you’re in an apartment, you’ll probably be sharing with your roommates, so you should end up with more than just 1 pot and pan, even if you only bring one of each. You can also talk to your roommates about bigger things (toaster, rice cooker, dish washing stuff) and maybe split those costs.

As for cost, if you’re in a dorm just swipe a couple things from the kitchen and you’re good to go. If you’re in an apartment you can probably also get away with borrowing from home, otherwise buy cheap. Dollar stores or other discount kinds of stores (ross and homegoods come to mind) are a good place to look. Don’t spend a lot, it’s a college kitchen so some of it might end up broken/ruined throughout the year.
