"Did you complete the UC general education requirements?"

On the UC app they ask if we have completed IGETC (yes/no) and then they ask "Did you complete the UC general education requirements?" I thought that the regular UC GE requirements differed from each UC, so that's why we did IGETC. I've done a lot of GE classes so should I check "yes" for that question?

at my CC, like if you are an engineering or science major , you aren’t encouraged to complete the IGETC. if you do then you have to notify the counselor that you have completed or will complete them by whenever (i.e. spring semester before transfer) and,at least at my CC we have to fill out a paper saying we completed the IGETC. also, completing the IGETC isn’t just taking a bunch of random GE classes lol. i’m assuming you’ve done like the english and math requirements because those are a big deal to the UC’s. then there are the art, science, history, etc.

if you’re still unclear let me know

Yes, I am still unclear…

If you completed your IGETC, I think you should be good. I am not completely sure, seems a bizarre question I don’t remember having to answer that.

Im pretty sure the igetc box is for community college students and the uc general education box is for UC-UC transfers. Im at a uc trying to go to another one so only the uc general education question would apply to me since i dont have igetc.

From my understanding, if you’ll be completing IGETC by the Spring semester before transfer then you should check the box. The general education they’re talking about is the 7 course breadth requirement. You can do either IGETC or the Breadth requirement.

I think that IGETC sort of encompasses or supersedes the UC gen ed requirements. If you’ve completed IGETC, you have completed the UC gen ed reqs automatically, so you can go ahead and tick that box.

Do not check the IGETC box unless you will have it completed by the end of spring semester. If you are choosing a different GE requirement route than check that if you will be done. Do not check either if you will not complete them by the end of spring semester before transferring. If you do have IGETC completed, as others have said that will cover you for all of the UC GE requirements. Unless you are an engineering major which had many more specific lower division requirements.
