Hi @lpiske! Great question! Our waitlist is randomized.

Around when should we expect any Waitlist status updates.
Thanks.

High school junior here. Im very interested in applying to the Stern school of business. Is a job necessary to be considered a solid candidate ? I have research internships in my areas of interest but not a job. Thank you

How easy is it to take courses outside of one’s own department.

Good Afternoon @MusicMjr,

An NYU financial aid package is made up of: scholarships, federal grants, federal loans, and work-study. 99% of the financial aid offered at NYU is ‘need-based’ – this means that an applicants financial aid package is assessed entirely separately from their application. Only 1% of financial aid offered is strictly merit-based, but all NYU applicants are considered for merit-based aid upon submitting their application and financial documents to NYU.

A financial aid package is based on the university and not the school.

It is very possible to double major and graduate in 4 years. I am double majoring alongside a minor and will graduate within 4 years

Hello @Steminatoree,

Great question! At NYU we consider extracurricular involvement in every sense of the world whether that be a traditional club/on-campus activity. Taking care of family as a caregiver. Job. Etc.

Do you give any preference to legacy?

How many admissions offers read 100k applications? Or are the applications first filtered using some algorithm and then only some are read?

Hello! @njparentf23, you can apply up to 32 credits as a first year student from a combination of AP/IB/Dual Enrollment Credits, which would put you in Sophomore Standing. Typically, CAS does not offer Co-Op opportunities, but Tandon School of Engineering does. CAS is more known for research opportunities, although many students intern at NYU. Lastly, there is a way to make it your own at NYU (and NYC). Students are more than able to find their own community and make this big place feel truly small, and it starts with Welcome Week!

Hey @Dms1! Extremely easy! All students will go through a core curriculum which will often require classes outside of their department. I am (double) majoing in Politics and Spanish but have taken classes in the English department, the Applied Pyschology department, and other departments.

Thank you!

@njparentf23, we have a full team of counselors that pay special attention to each and every single application (yes, ALL). Multiple people (2-3 minimum) read each application before a decision is rendered.

Can roommates be selected or are they assigned randomly for the first-year students?

@njparentf23, there is a slight preference to legacy, but not by much. We do this to level the playing field for all applicants to have an equal chance of being admitted to NYU!

Hi @Matooz, great question! Liberal Studies Core is a two-year program before one declares a major and students accepted into this program have the option to study their first year in New York, Florence, London, Madrid, and Washington DC. When a student applies, they will be able to notify us if they would like to.

Global Liberal Studies is a major. So students in this program will graduate with a BA in Global Liberal Studies.

@Dms1, very Easy! Students have the ability to take classes at any of the undergraduate schools (and campuses!).
