I submitted my WWU application last week. I obviously haven't heard back yet, but I know some people at my school who have already gotten in. Please post your stats if you have already been admitted.

daughter got in out of state. Will she like it or does everyone arrive there with established cliques? Have heard great things about the school from Washington state residents!

I just read the reviews on College Prow-ler, and it sounds like a great school with lots of diversity. Read those reviews - I think your daughter will love it.

I toured the campus back in the 90s and it is beautiful. Bellingham is a wonderfully hip, safe, small city close to the Canadian border and Vancouver, BC.

I’m still waiting on my letter of acceptance (hopefully). If I get in, it will be the first non-private I get into. I’ve heard they reply in about 2-3 weeks time…

I have a question for people who have attended/visited WWU. How is the partying? Is there a lot of it? Dorm life? Drinking/weed scene? Social life in general? Type of people that attend?

I want to know if WWU would be a good fit for me. If I get accepted, I plan to visit in the springtime.

My brother graduates from WWU this March. It’s a very liberal school so you will find all of “that” there.

Thanks for the reply. And dang, that’s not exactly what I wanted to hear haha.

Accepted today! Well yesterday, but I checked my mail today. Exactly 3 weeks from the date I applied.

GPA- 3.3ish (noticeable upward trend)
SAT- 1800ish
Course Rigor- 6 AP/4 Honors
ECs- pretty good I’d say
Essay- personable/touching (I hope)
Letter of Recs- I got 2 non-academic ones (both were really good, known both for 4+ years)

Definitely visiting in the spring, but until then, I am definitely going to wait for UW’s response.

Congrats!! Still waiting for the UW as well (and WWU for that matter)…

I was accepted weeks ago:
3.88 GPA, 1800 SAT
4 AP courses, 1 Honors Course- my school doesn’t offer a lot of advanced courses.
Tons of volunteering (Adult Day Care, Animal Shelter, etc.)

Did you get any scholarship money? Do you know any info about scholarships at WWU in general?

Western has as much (or as little) of “that” as you would find at any other school of similar size. Yes there is the Party crowd. No it’s not everyone on campus. Yes some “do” substances. No, it’s not the entire campus. In other words you can have any experience you wish. The campus, as a whole, is pretty much live and let live; HOWEVER if you don’t read the student handbook and get yourself arrested (the local police and campus cops are spending a lot of time breaking up the off campus parties) you could find yourself back at your local community college. Also, no matter what others tell you a MIP (minor in possession) IS a serious problem. They won’t let you into Canada - and that’s just for starters. It’s a smallish town, and everyone does, to some extent, know everyone elses business. The upshot of the deal is that Western isn’t in the “party” league with Wazoo or the Dawgs.

Received my WWU acceptance letter on 2/3 (last Thursday) and my acceptance for WSU a couple of weeks ago!!! Just waiting on UW now…

D to visit WWU and Bellingham this weekend - the school has been amazingly helpful to us and so enthusiastic and welcoming! I hope she loves it!

I applied on the last day, march 1 and was accepted about three days ago.
4.0 gpa 1930 sat
I got a 4 on my AP U.S. Hitsory test and I’m currently taking two AP classes and the rest honors.
I was cross country captain and involved in theatre.

I also applies out of state. I’m from massachusetts.

I received a 2000 presidential scholarship, but they mentioned sending out additional merit scholarships in the upcoming month.

how difficult/easy is it to get into WWU instate?
D LOVED the school this weekend, I think right now it’s between WWU and Seattle U for her

WWU accepts about 70% of applicants (75% of female applicants), so if your D has reasonable qualifications, she’ll probably get in. The 25th/75th percentile SAT scores for 2009 were:

Verbal:500 and 620
Math: 500 and 610
Writing: 490 and 590

If she is in (or above) that range, it would seem likely.

I applied in early December with a 3.13 GPA, 1910 SAT (620 CR, 640 W, 650 M), and some mediocre extracurriculars. I had a somewhat rigorous senior course load, and I got my acceptance packet literally a week after they received my SAT scores.

Does anyone know whether the students stick around on the weekends at WWU?

I’m a current out of state student at WWU, finishing my freshman year. I absolutely love it.

About weekends: Living on campus, I’d say half of my Seattle friends go home once or twice a month. So basically not that much. Weekends are definitely not dead around here, but people who live close do indeed go home when they can.

About partying and whatnot: Whatever you want, you’ll find. You can find the obnoxious types, the casual types, the abstinent types, anything. The school is big enough to find where you can to be. But it’s still not a huge school to get lost in.

Just wanted to say I adore the campus. There are art sculptures everywhere that are just part of what Western is all about. The location is beautiful, there’s enough to do for a college student (but it’s not a huge city like Seattle), and the people here are great.
