Hi,
So I got an 1860 on the old SAT and people are telling me that I shouldn’t retake the SAT. My SAT is pretty low and I was hoping to retake and get a much better school.
Do you guys recommend I take it in college?
Thanks

Why would you retake it in college?
That is the same score I have right now while thinking about transferring. I talked to a counselor and they told me that because writing was my strongest section it may not be worth it because they got rid of the writing section (its on a 1600 scale now). I may take it anyway because you don’t get punished for wrong answers anymore I think. They recommended because writing isn’t on the sat anymore that I try the ACT once and see how that goes for me. I think it would depend on your GPA as well, if your GPA is really strong then don’t worry about it. Also if you are transferring as a jr or sophomore. If you are transferring as a jr they won’t really care about your SAT as much because you are further away from high school vs as a sophomore they still weigh that stuff a little bit more. I may take it again just because why not it’s only $50ish if you can afford it I say do it. You don’t have to send the scores if they turn out worse.
google “SAT.” It should bring up the page that tells you all about the redesigned test.
I want to transfer to top schools like Columbia, Cornell, maybe Harvard or the likes. I thought you need tip-top SAT scores for transfers
You’re an incoming freshman and already thinking about transferring to schools with less than 5% acceptance rates?
Better to start early and prepare
I am thinking about transferring also, because I hate the college I am currently enrolled in. My SAT was 1990, and I am considering taking the ACT.
I think you should retake it, or try the ACT.
@retraction , my SAT score isn’t where I wa my it to be either, so I understand.
I would retake it! There’s no limit to, and depending on where you are going after you get a bachelor’s, you’ll need to amp up your score.
Med school, for example, looks at SAT scores in addition to your GPA.
I’m retaking my my SAT. It wouldn’t hurt, and most schools superscore, so there’s an advantage to taking an SAT a couple times.
I wouldn’t do it more than 5 times though.
Good luck, and hope I helped!
No way. Do well in college and move on.
