Did You Submit School Report Part II?

Recently discovered that there is a School Report Part II that is not part of the Common App School Report form.

Did you ask your counselor to submit this form?

Yep. Gotta thank this forum for showing me it about a month ago.

i didn’t…

It’s not necessary to submit it. It’s just there as a way for the counselor to give some added information to Harvard about the student, so if you think your counselor gave enough on the common app, then you’re most likely fine.

How do I love thee CC? Let me count the ways… :)

Also Wedge are you sure it’s not required? I think on other threads people said they called the admissions office and it is, indeed, a necessary document.

After doing more research, I’m actually uncertain.

I read the entirety of the SSR-II form and it says,

“We have provided this supplement to the Common Application School Report to give secondary schools the opportunity to offer further information about their students. You may have already provided this information in your report”.

Notice the word ‘opportunity’ which implies that it might not be required. It also states that the information asked for on this form is something that has already been provided.

The rest of the form asks for transcript, grades, course level indications, and test scores, things that most counselors have already submitted.

Finally, it asks for more ratings (Average, Good, Great, Outstanding, Best) on some subjective characteristics such as self-reliance, humor, energy, initiative, etc.

I still believe that it is not required based on anecdotes from students who didn’t submit it and were accepted, but it most likely can only help and I’m going to check with my guidance counselor tomorrow to ensure that she has sent it.

If you still want to get your own counselor to send it, I don’t think Harvard will hold it against you since it was placed in a very obscure location and was not mentioned on the CommonApp.

Let’s have this thread function as a poll - “Did you submit School Report II”.

I submitted it. Found out about it on CC

Uhh… Never heard of it? If I get my counselor to fill it out and fax it to Harvard do you think they’d take it?

It’s not required. Indeed, if your counselor has filled out the SSR in appropriate detail, there’s no need to submit the SRII. You’ll notice that both forms are almost identical in terms of what they ask from the counselor. The fact is that at some schools, the counselors are simply understaffed and don’t have the chance to write a decent recommendation. Using the Harvard name is a good way to motivate counselors to do a decent job in writing a rec.

^ valid point, they were identical. Even so, I’m glad for this forum too, because that’s how I found out about it :)

I believe that it is required after speaking with the office of undergraduate admissions.

I submitted mine a few weeks ago.

My school uses its own form for the Secondary School Report (and therefore she didn’t use the Common App’s form), so I’m questioning what this is and if it’s required??

Yeah, my school has its own forms too, I believe. Not sure though.

Hm, I think it’s fine. I’m sure my counselor would’ve said something about it if it was required.

Well, my counselor has only had to deal with a couple applications to Harvard before, so he might have just never heard of it. lol

Did not submit

I submitted it - luckily I stumbled upon it in plenty of time to give it to my guidance counselor to submit it with everything else.

I was one of the moms who called and asked. They told me that it was a requirement and was not optional, but apologized for hiding it on their website.

Still, I can hardly believe that they would be willing to penalize so many people for something *they *could have handled better.

We got two different answers!

I was told that while they like to receive Part II it is not a requirement and they don’t penalize the applicant if it is not present. They understand that Counselor’s are very busy and have already filled out Part I (which is part of the common app). However, if possible, they would like to have the Counselor fill out Part II and send it in because the extra info helps them evaluate the applicant.
