Did You Submit School Report Part II?

Agh why can’t we get a straight answer!?

EDIT: I just checked my app status on Harvard’s website and it says that all required documents have been received. I haven’t submitted the SSR Part II yet.

Has anyone else called admissions? We could use another data point.

If you haven’t submitted the form and know already that it’s recommended, why not send it in now? It will be simply be added to your file and the adcom probably haven’t reviewed your application yet.

I know this is unlikely, but on things like this I can sometimes be a worrier. haha My concern with that is what if they receive it late and question why I didn’t turn it in by the deadline?

If you knew about it and didn’t submit it by the deadline, then there’s no point in submitting it now, honestly. You’ll just look like one of the many many applicants who don’t know about it.

The person I spoke with suggested sending it in, if possible, even though the deadline for app submission had passed.

^^And you won’t if you never submit it at all ?

The argument is that the Common App SSR form is essentially identical to SRII, and the latter is redundant, and mostly a means to encourage overworked guidance counselors to put some decent work into their recommendation of a student to Harvard.

No, I didn’t know about it until I saw this thread yesterday (I think it was yesterday, may have been two days ago don’t remember haha).

It is possible that some school counselors are sending in SRII without the applicant being aware of it.

I talked to my counselor about it today and after reading it he seemed fairly confident that it was optional. He offered to fill it out and send it in anyway.

He did just send someone to Harvard a couple years ago, so he might know what he’s talking about, but again I’m not sure. I’m just satisfied that mine will be sent in. lol

Instructions on applying - The first section covers applying online and states the Common App SSR isn’t released until your application is submitted. It doesn’t mention SSR Part II or submitting any forms by paper. What percentage of Common App users don’t know about the SSR Part II?

The 2nd section covers paper applications and in the last paragraph states that they want the other forms (SSR, etc) submitted on paper. Therefore, anyone submitting a paper app should end up with Part II as part of their application.

[Harvard College Admissions § Applying: Requirements](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/application_process/requirements.html)

For Students Applying Online:
Important: If you plan to/expect to submit an online application, you should complete and submit your online materials as soon as possible. The Common Application requires the submission of your application (or supplement) before releasing to a college your supporting application materials (SSR, Teacher Reports, etc.) To ensure full and timely consideration of your application you should submit your own application materials at the earliest possible time.

It is very important that you submit to us your portion of the Common Application as soon as possible. Until you do so, your application will not be transmitted to the Harvard Admissions Office.

For Students Applying Using a Paper Application (Mailed):
If you are completing a paper copy of the application, you may choose to send your Personal Statement and Short Answer on a separate piece of paper. If you choose to do so, please write your full name, address, date of birth and high school on each page. If you are submitting an electronic copy of the application, you will need to complete these sections before your application will be transmitted to us.

Please also note: If you are submitting your application materials on paper you should ask those who are completing supplementary forms (SSR, Teacher Reports) to provide those materials on paper to us.

I didn’t. But if it is truly required, I’m sure Harvard admissions would notify us that it is missing.

asked my counsler about it and he said it wasn’t required

I didn’t submit SSRII, but my application status says that all required documents have been received. I’m guessing that it simply optional then (hope so at any rate).

my counselor submitted it late (as in a few days ago). she faxed it to harvard. i guess i’ll be good.

I sent it, after seeing it on collegeconfidential.

hahaha. yeah, i too brought it to my counselor’s attention after seeing it here.

Not going to.

I think the fact that, on Harvard’s website, it claims they would notify us if anything required is missing from our application means that, if you have not been contacted about it and did not submit it (like me), you are fine.

Why would they hide it like that on their website? Weird.
