<p>Hi, I'm a senior in high school and i'm going to Santa Monica college this year. I was wondering should I take summer classes this year ? The reason I ask is because I don't want to overload with classes in the fall and I definitely don't want to stay for more than 2 years before I transfer. Is it difficult to finish 60 credits in 2 years ? I want to finish TAG with UCSB and IGETC for sure. Thanks </p>

<p>It is always a good idea! For your first summer, take 1 class. Take two if you’re confident. I’d suggest taking BOTH the economics classes during summer, since its more laid back and its going to be spending the summer studying something you love. </p>
<p>Getting 60 units is easy, finishing the IGETC is okay, its the requirements and the GPA that’s kind of a killer. Since you’re a econ major, the requirements aren’t really that much. Just get your GPA to a 4.0, apply for a tag, and get in!</p>

<p>Aren’t you done with finals early because you’re a senior? Look at your senior calendar. You can go to your summer CC class most likely.</p>
<p>you should, that way you can have something to do and keep you busy during the summer and get your general ed out of the way! And if you have good time management skills and are dilligent about taking summer classes, and assuming you score high on the english and math assessments (high enough to be able to take a UC/CSU transferrable class), you should be out in no time.</p>
<p>Don’t take the econ classes in the summer (especially micro). Get the lame humanities classes out of the way so you can focus on your econ/math pre-reqs.</p>

<p>I’d recommend that you take some summer classes. Since summer is shorter and the classes tend to be more rushed, you should probably take subjects you’re comfortable with. A similar overlap between the end of the year and college happened to me for my first year at CCC. I just notified my teachers and my parents notified the administration to call me out of class when it was time to leave. The first day, the professor usually just goes over the syllabus for half the time and lectures for another half. It shouldn’t be a problem for you to handle.</p>
<p>As far as the transfer requirements go, getting 60 units is pretty easy and finishing IGETC and your major pre-reqs is simple as well, especially since some of the classes will overlap. I really wouldn’t worry about it. I would sketch a loose schedule for the 2 years to follow. You can always adjust for your circumstances, but you’ll have a plan of attack for UCSB. </p>

<p>unless you have problems with basic algebra (in which case you’ll fail the calculus required for econ anyway), microeconomics is really easy. perfect summer class.</p>
<p>do it! I’m glad i did it b/c that allowed me to take a gap semester b/c of a family emergency. I took 9 units over the summer and i breezed by with all As.</p>

<p>I took chem 10 at smc the summer before 11th grade . . . with lab so it was 5 units- four or five hours a day, four days a week, six weeks. it was really fun and i learned a lot. oh, and i ENROLLED three days after the summer school started- just email the prof and they’ll almost certainly help you out. and if not, talk to the counseling office.</p>

<p>I wouldn’t take a major prereq over the summer. Why would you wanna race through what will be one of your fav classes? I liked taking speech over the summer. Perfect class to scrunch into 6 weeks.</p>
<p>I personally recommond taking summer classes coming out of highschool. </p>
<p>First, it lets you get acquainted to your CC so you won’t be freaking out during the first day of fall semester. Yes, you are going to experience all the usual uneasiness and pangs of anxiety on the first day, but you would much rather go through it in summer than in fall, when you will be busy fighting for parking spots and finding your classes. </p>
<p>Second, college classes are somewhat different than highschool’s, at least format-wise. If you had never taken college classes, it could take some time getting used to. </p>
<p>Lastly, if you do well in summer school, it could definitely give you a confidence boost and set a good start for your time at CC.</p>

<p>I took summer school the summer right after hs (I graduated on a thursday, had to go to cc on monday 
). In fact, I took three classes that summer, I’m taking summer school now and even WITH my AP credit, my schedule is completely loaded for >15 units per semester for both of my years at cc… Damn engineering major.</p>
<p>But I’d be in a much worse situation had I not taken the summer courses. I dont know what your major is, but getting a little ahead of the curve wouldn’t hurt.</p>

<p>Thank God for summer classes! And Winter Intersession classes too, but my CC doesn’t offer them anymore.</p>
