I just read through Son's packet of info that came with his ED acceptance. It included:
The "Congratulations Letter"
A "Save the date" postcard about campus day
A "Welcome to Wake Forest" fold-up poster
A campus map
A copy of Wake Forest Magazine

Should there be a card or business reply envelope? All the letter says is that final transcript must be sent.

Since he's an ED applicant, obviously they know he won't decline. But, it just seems weird that there's no request for deposit, or anything else to do. Is this unusual?

DougBetsy - I had completely forgotten this until I read your post. My son’s packet was missing the deposit card last year as well! I called the admissions office and had them either e-mail or fax it to me so that I had his student ID number and the address for where to send the $500 check. What an odd thing for them to keep forgetting!

Well, that’s the thing, rockvillemom. I wonder if they forgot it or purposely left it out. Son has an Army ROTC scholarship that will pay all tuition and fees + $5k for R&B. So, one could conclude he doesn’t have to pay a deposit. Then I get nervous and think I should send in some money, just to be safe; they’ll apply it toward the R&B remainder.

Well, regardless, I’ll be calling on Monday to ask. Thanks for the replies, dd2014 & rockvillemom.

DougBetsy - well it must be that Rockville connection then - I think I see your name everywhere I go on CC - I think our families have similar tastes in colleges! Hope your son is very happy at Wake Forest - I don’t know anything about ROTC - but happy to answer any other questions you have. My son just went back today after being home for spring break - and he has been really happy there. He finds the academics challenging, but not over his head, loves the school spirit and sports atmosphere and seems completely satisfied with his experience so far. Have fun with the accepted student day as well - my son went to it still undecided between Wake and W & M, came back with a Wake hat, and that’s how we knew he had made his decision!

Rockville mom - we are OOS and waiting for admission decision - anxiously. I think I saw on another thread that you said you were happy with the finaid package WF gave your son. We also applied for finaid & hope that it can make it possible for DD to attend if admitted. Our FAFSA EFC is $21,700 - can you give me any info as to what we can expect?

bruins77 - happy to oblige. Last year, our EFC was about $15,500 - don’t recall exactly. We rcvd $23,000 in grants, a $4000 Perkins loan (fixed rate at 5%) and another few thousand in the form of a Stafford loan and a CitiAssist loan, both of which we declined. There was also work study of $2000. If we had taken the other loans, the pkg would have totalled about $34,000 - meeting full need. The grant money was obviously the piece we were most excited by, but the Perkins loan is also a good deal. I believe the FA letter arrived a day or 2 after the acceptance - I think the acceptance came on a Monday and the FA letter mid-week.

Our EFC is a little higher this year - about $18,000 - but the cost is also up about $3000 - so I am curious to see the pkg for a returning student - which apparently we won’t get until June. I found the Financial Aid office at Wake to be very pleasant to deal with - I always get a quick response when I call or e-mail. Had trouble with one question on the FAFSA this year and they were very helpful. So, fingers crossed for a good pkg this year. Good luck to you as well.
