I'd like to hear about people's experiences. Our HS offers many APs, but not studio art. AP studio art is evaluated on the basis of a digitally submitted portfolio, not an exam. The AP confirms that a student can submit a portfolio for AP evaluation and scoring, even without the course. Sportykid would pull together a portfolio, digitize it, and our HS's AP coordinator would have to be the final person to submit the portfolio to AP. Hopefully the art teachers will offer some advice and comment on the evolving portfolio, despite the fact that they don't offer the course.

Can anyone tell me about their experience doing this? Pros, cons, lessons learned?

Had a nephew who did same last year from a public high school which had never had a student ever submit before. He got minimal support from his school, but did get some support from another uncle, employed as a corporate artist of sorts, who assisted with accompanying narrative portions of the portfolio. He got a 5.

It was a while ago but older d submitted portfolio as although our high school offered AP Studio Art, it was offered but she had a conflict with BC Calculus. So she worked it out with the Art Dept that she took a photography elective instead and worked on the portfolio on her own, although she did have guidance from the Art Dept faculty. She got a 4 but it allowed her to place out of Intro to Art in her freshman year of college and start on a more appropriate level class.

Good to know – anybody else?
