When I applied to the UW in November (freshman app) I chose pre-engineering because I had no idea which engineering major I wanted to pursue. In hindsight this was a very poor decision and I am now wondering if there is any process for still being considered for direct admission. I'm looking into EE, CSE, and Biomedical engineering at UW. I am a very competitive applicant (3.97 UW, 2370, 3x800 on M/P/C, excellent ECs) and I'm confident I would have been accepted to those majors through direct admission had I applied for them. Is there any possibility of still being considered for direct admission?

If not, I have almost enough AP/IB credits to meet most of the requirements for early application into these majors (I don't have credits for Calc 126, CSE 143 and I think one of the EE intro courses), so would it be possible to apply for admission for these majors after my first quarter?

I think you can change your intended major and still be considered for CSE. Call UW on Monday and talk to them, if you are such a competitive applicant (which I think you are) they will probably look into offering you direct admission. I’m pretty sure I read on the FAQ on their website that you can still change your intended major and be considered. Not positive but couldn’t hurt to try.

Direct admission is probably too late, but early admission is certainly a possibility. You should talk to the departmental advisers about this (or maybe also the Pre-engineering advisers).

How did your other college apps end up going, by the way? I’m guessing you applied to several good places based on your stats.
