So, on my SCEA app to Yale, I checked the little box that said "Do you intend to apply for need-based financial aid?" I don't even think my family will qualify, but my dad said he wanted to try anyway. I gave him all the stuff, told him it was due nov 1, and he just told me he never did it! I don't think he really minds, so the FA might not be a big thing. But I'm worried that I said I would but didn't. Will that impact my admissions decision? I realize it's probably too late to do anything now but just wanted some input. Thanks!

No, it’s not going to affect admissions. Yale is need blind. And, many people change their minds about submitting for FA.

The admissions committee at Yale will have their own decision making process that has nothing to do with financial aid. If you were to be accepted, then that information would go to FA and they’d generate an aid award offer for you if you were eligible for aid.

So, no, it shouldn’t have anything to do with the admission decision, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to send an email to the financial aid office and explain that while you originally thought you’d be applying for aid (and you indicated this on your Common App), that your father decided not to apply for aid after all, so it will not be necessary to work up an aid award for you in the event you’re accepted. That would just be a courtesy to the FA office so they don’t get have to figure out where the heck your aid application is in order to work on it.

Perfect. I’ll definitely do that. Thanks so much!
