didn't follow directions, did you?

Now that some time has passed, I'm going through S's applications to read back over them. While checking out the Penn app, I noticed he didn't follow the directions and I wonder how many others didn't either :-).

Specifically, on the biographical data and one other place that I noticed (didn't hunt for more), the directions were to type in all UPPERCASE letters. S did not. Oops :-)

^Ehh…doubt that’s anything worth concerning about.

I went looking but I couldn’t find what you were talking about, or rather, where.

As long as he got the point across, it shouldn’t impact his chances at admission. But, if it’s a glaring, potentially lethal error, then I would have him shoot the regional admissions officer a note explaining it.

reading through the instructions again, i think they meant you can either type them (normally) or print them in uppercase letters…i dont think they meant type in only uppercase.
that’s how i interpreted it the first time and how i still see it (three months later)
so i think your son is fine :)

go back to the common app where you fill in your demographics… name, adddress, etc… it says to type in UPPERCASE.

no, it’s not a big deal, I just noticed it though. ain’t gonna fret :-)

I read the application and I agree with post #5. If you were to type then it’s ok, but if you were to print then if should be all uppercase.
One problem I notice is that some students don’t read the application. The application repeatedly refers to Penn and not UPenn. It’s no biggie. Small nit.

Well I guess I didn’t follow directions, but they didn’t penalize me…

@drgoogle

does it really matter that it’s Penn and not UPenn?? I was a bit confused as to how to refer to them in my essay…since it’s website is upenn.edu?
but they do say Penn a lot…

I used UPenn in mine and I got in.

Post #9. It doesn’t matter but Penn itself is also confused. The Common Data Set has Upenn in the file name, but the essay supplement says Penn. I’ve also heard stories that Penn’s adcoms often said in admission tours that it’s Penn and NOT UPenn.

The correct usage is Penn, not Upenn. I agree that the URL misleads people.
