Didn't get accepted/ is there a waitng list?

My son didn't get accepted and is very dissapointed, is there a waitng list perhaps or an appeals process or something so he may still get in?
What about applying to start in the spring term?

He has good grades 3.7GPA 3.9??? Weighted 1370 SAT (800 math)

I thinking it is availablity not grades? Any suggestions?

He really wants in!!

My S has almost identical stats and was accepted. Maybe you should call on Monday and talk to an Admissions Counselor. They hopefully will have some ideas for your S. Where else did your S apply to? Is he in anywhere?

He applied to UCF but doesn't want to resort going there. We told him to apply to many colleges but he didn't listen. He really only wanted to go to UF.
He has his heart set on it.

I have heard that some colleges have waitng list, I would iomage they would but also depends on how far down the list he is. I already saw several post here that siad they were accepted but plan to go elsewhere. We are not giving up just not sure how to proceed.

actually his SAT's were 1390 not 1370 (800 on math) he has lots of stuff on his extra curricular too, community service hours voulnteering judging at elemntry schools science fairs, He himself won many science fair awards including 2nd place at state comp. in 2004 and 2005 and Went to international competiton in 2004 plus dozens of others. He is on math team and year book and we graduate with 6 or 7 extra class credits. Can't understand why he didn't get in.

Call and ask the admissions office, but be prepared to get the brush-off a couple times - they are fielding hundreds of calls from really unqualified applicants who didn't get in, and they might assume that your son is in that group.

U Florida's Common Data Set says they don't use a waitlist. Still, it can't hurt to ask.

Well, that must have changed...I actually was placed on a waitlist with stats that are normally an easy in for UF (1440 SAT, etc.)

Not applying early killed me, I guess.

When did you apply what year and term?, when did you get placed on waiting list, Are you enrolled now? please tell us more, what should we expect when we call and ask about waiting list

At the moment I'm a high school senior, and found out last night I was waitlisted. I've gotten into toher schools, though, so I don't know if I'll pursue it strongly. I believe this is the first year that UF incorporated a wait list, as they are WAY overenrolled this year. They were very liberal in allowing in students Early Decision, apparently, and Regular Decision acceptances had to be cut way back.

How did you find out you were waitlisted though??? All my sons said was that he wasn't acceptednothing about beign waitlisted

In the online notification they told me they would place me on a waiting list.

Well, I know they deffered applicants for RD 1 and I do know there is an appeal process. I was deffered for RD 1 but accepted when the RD 2 decisions came out.

i'm surprised he didn't get in. my friends had worse stats and got into UF ED. and they are party animals. (SATs in the 1200s)

but, did he apply RD2? that may have been why. i really hope your son can get in some how. maybe they will listen!!! :)

since it's public, I know that they must reveal their logic... afaik.

I applied to Uf during the first round of RD. I was deferred then i just got on the wait list. I have a 3.7 GPA and 2030 Boards and lots of EC's and writing awards. I am on the wait list, so such an animal exists. i received a full scholarship at a small college in vermont, and a great package at FSU and at Rollins College. I am not too upset at being waitlisted at UF. i willnot go there even if i get in. When i got deferred i did write to them and sent in additional materials to enhance my chances. I would call them, it cant hurt. i tried calling a private LAC in NY to get mor merit money, it did not help, but you should try. UCF is supposed to be good ,so he should not be too upset. Good luck.

any suggestions on how to compose a letter and what to include?

outline any new accomplishments in senior year. addd some letters of rec or any newspaper stuff. show how much you really want in. send mid year grades. call and beg in a prfessional way. send letter frist and then follwo up with phone call. good luck.

despite what people say, UF is the best school in florida. fsu and ucf will never ever touch them.

Absolutely, amnesia. The only good things I hear about FSU are about football and their film school. As for UCF, I don't know anything about it except that it's where most of the UF rejects from my school go that don't want to be close to home at FSU (<2 hours from home).

As for your son, winnies, I'm frankly shocked that he wasn't accepted with those stats unless there is something you're not telling. After all, you only need a 1400 to be eligible for the honors program so a high 1300s should be an easy in.

Did he write "Go FSU!" for the essay responses?

Has he taken any AP/IB classes? Most people do these days. "85 percent [of enrolling students] reported one AP or IB score as of July 2005. 55 percent reported five or more AP or IB scores as of July 2005." Comparing the acceptance rate from my school with lots of AP classes to the acceptances at a similar quality school across town with almost no AP, it's obvious to me that AP/IB is a big factor in getting accepted on academics alone.

I can't remember if UF requires recommendations (since I applied way back in october) but if they do, maybe the teachers/counselor wrote unflattering things.

Or maybe they just felt like he didn't have enough other activities. I don't know anything about your son beyond this post so I can't really venture an opinion on that. But the website does clearly say "few students are admitted purely on academic merit. Most students are admitted on the basis of several factors."

Unless there has been some mistake, there's gotta be a gaping hole in some part of your application that you don't see to get turned down with those numbers.

We called them and they are sending us an appeal form. They did not disclose reason for for not accepting him.

Yes, he has taken many AP classes, I don not know what IB classes are? He took a few dual enrollemnt classes also. Maybe his essay were lacking?????

He has his 75 hours community service and his extra curricular activities, include, math team for every year, year book this year, he has particiapatied in many, many science fairs, won many many awards, went to state comp 5 times, went to International Science Fair comp in sophmore year, only 1500 students "Internationally" each year go to that comp so that was a biggie!!! I thought any ways........
