Didn't get an email to explain gaps in my education

I have many gaps in my education from previously attending a UC. Actually, I even included that I attended quarters where I had no grades to report since I withdrew during the quarter from the university yet on my transcript it says I was enrolled.

I’ve noticed a few students on here have received emails to explain their gaps but I haven’t received one. It kind of concerns me even though I made sure to really explain it in the additional comments and also one of my PIQ responses was based on why I have gaps.

I guess I just want to know if anyone else is on the same boat or if someone had a similar experience in previous years.

Either way, I know there’s nothing I can do but wait but I just had to ask in case…

Thanks and good luck to all

Maybe your explanations were better than the ones of the other students.

My friend and I have not got that email either. I took a semester off after graduating from high school. I explained specifically why I had to take a semester off and what I did during that time. In my case, I graduated from high school in California, but my mom who worked in Georgia declared me as a dependent. So, I had to pay the out-state tuition, which made me decide to work full-time to support myself and my family a bit.

@damon30 yea who knows…thanks for your input!

@hodol2006 well, at least we’re not alone. Hopefully it doesn’t mean anything. I guess we will know soon enough

@hodol2006 no email for you or your friend yet?

I did get one, but from what my transfer counselors said, its random who they choose to contact to verify that info, so I’m sure you’ll be fine. If you’re worried, maybe you can reach out to your UC transfer counselor? I’ve emailed mine with questions and they’ve been great.

@Not2cool4school oh ok well that’s reassuring thank you. Do you mean a transfer counselor at your community college or the ones who work at the UC’s?

My community college (American River College in Sacramento) has UC transfer counselors come onto campus. They work for the UC’s admission departments for their campuses and travel to different community colleges to meet with students. I got to know the ones from UC Davis (where I TAG’d) and UC Berkeley (where I was a TAP student) pretty well. They have been very helpful through the process, and even gave my PIQ responses a quick readthrough before submission. Your community college may have the UC transfer counselor’s info on their website, like mine does.

I also had the same doubt. They did not send me an email to explain gaps in my education. I had a gap in summer where I was not able to take any summer classes. However, I did explain my reasoning on the UC application. So far no emails from UC asking about the gap.

It’s reassuring to know that I’m not the only who didn’t receive an email.

@Not2cool4school oh ok we do have them come to our school too. Thanks so much for your time!

@StudentAgain you’re welcome! Good luck!

Ok for reference to anyone who reads this thread during this application cycle or future ones:

I emailed a UC representative that visits my school and she said that they email students when they need more information to review their application but that I explained it pretty well in the additional comments section so they did not need to contact me.

I did base my essays on these gaps and mentioned it in two additional comments sections. I pretty much wrote about it everywhere. I previously attended a UC a few years back.

If anyone now or in the future needs to find out who their UC representatives are, I recommend contacting your community college’s transfer center for information. There are rep’s for each UC and they usually visit the schools year round. You can also find information on the respective UC’s website.

I guess we will see what my admission’s decisions are and I’ll come back and post it on here so those who are concerned in the future have some sort of reference.

Glad you were able to get some help! It’s such a long process that it’s hard not to get anxious. What UCs did you apply for? Did you TAG anywhere?

Yea I find that I’m getting really anxious now that April is coming up.
I applied for: UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCI, UCSD, & UCSB (tagged). What about you?

I applied for UC Berkeley, UC Davis (TAG), UCSB (accepted), UCSC, UCM and UCI. We put a deposit down on a townhouse apartment in Davis, since you have to rent way ahead of time, and its harder to find housing for a family. But we know the owners, so if we need to break the lease, it won’t be a big deal. If I get into Cal I can take the train from Davis, if we decide on another campus, we’ll move. I really just want to have my campus settled already.

Oh I attended Davis in 2011. It’s a great place for families in my opinion and I have lived in various areas in Davis and housing was always great. Good thing Berkeley is announcing earlier than usual this year.

I’m excited that Berkeley is announcing early! I have a countdown calendar on my phone for it.

@studentAgain No, my friend and I still have not got any email.

@Not2cool4school me too! Wish you the best. I hope you get into your top choice!
