Didn't get in, trying again.

Is there anyone who applied to Boarding Schools and was not accepted but is going to try again?

This happened to me when I applied to Exeter, Andover, Deerfield, and Choate but did not get in so I am going to try again this year.

Is there anyone who did get in the second or third time they applied?

Most Kids who were rejected/ waitlisted first year get accepted to Exeter the 2nd year applying. I guess the admissions people just want to see that you really want their school

i was waitlisted at every school i applied to in 8th grade and the next year i was accepted into two of the three! (except i was denied again at exeter after being waitlisted) so you usually have an advantage applying for the 2nd year, but not always (exeter… for me) but in exeter’s case i needed mega FA to go and that wasn’t possible for the school (as you see in other threads)

That’s not true for everyone.

good luck this year sasha

i got in at Exeter the first time around with full FA w/ laundry money, plane tickets, surplus money for books and supplies. But last year I applied to andover and hotchkiss and got waitlisted. same thing happened again the second time around so i guess that you should reapply, keeping in mind that broadening your range isn’t a bad idea. But I wouldn’t reapply to a school that you were outright rejected from, if you were waitlisted it’s not a bad idea to reapply.

hotkissjin, you got a full ride to exeter and didn’t go and then reapplied to other schools? what?

nonono, last year I only applied to two schools: hotchkiss and andover and got waitlisted at both. THIS year I applied to hotchkiss, andover, deerfield, and Exeter. so i was applying to exeter for the first time, and I got in on a full ride. So I’m going to Exeter this year  hope i cleared that up

congrats, what a turnaround, you must be very excited.

no congratulations for me? haha just kidding. and i don’t necessarily agree with TIGER. just because you reapply, it doesn’t mean you’ll have an advantage with a certain school, except that you’ll be more prepared going into the admissions process. From my experience, schools like Exeter want smart, determined students that are well rounded and can contribute to the community. The smart and determined part is shown by the grades, essay, ssats, teacher recs and the second part is shown by the interview and ECs as well as teacher recs. There are many more qualities schools like in students but im done writing.
BTW this is how i sawr it, other ppl might have their own opinions.

I was rejected at MX, but I’m applying again this year

This year I applied to Deerfield, Exeter, Andover, Choate, Lawrenceville, St. Paul’s, Groton, Hotchkiss, and Portsmouth Abbey. I got waitlisted at Deerfield(my number one choice! :[), Groton, Hotchkiss, and Portsmouth Abbey. I got rejected again at Andover, Exeter and Choate ): I got into Lawrenceville and will probably go there next year as a 10th grader. thanks for all the help(:

yeah!!! congrats Sasha!!! I’m sure you’ll thrive at L’ville!!

I am in like the same situation as Sasha. I applied to MX, PEA, PA, SPS, and Choate and got rejected from all. Hopefully I will get accepted to one next year too. haha

Just curious. Did they say why you didn’t get accepted? Also what grade were you applying for, and what were your grades and test scores? Also, you can try going to each schools web site, and click on email the student your question. Maybe a current student at one of the schools may know of some students this happened to and can help you.
