Didn't get into class I put on Transfer Update.

Hi everyone,
I am attending a California Community College and have applied to some UC’s as a Computer Science Major. On the Transfer Application Update, I put that I was going to take Linear Algebra this spring semester, but I was not able to get into the class. If I get accepted to a UC and they see on the final transcript that I do not have the class, will they rescind my acceptance?

Possibly. Really depends on if the class is just a miscellaneous class for no reason or f it’s a major requirement

It’s a major requirement for sure.

You have to contact the UC’s you applied to immediately and notify them. Since it is a major requirement it is more than likely that they will rescind your admission(if you get accepted) if they see that you did not take a requirement you said you were going to take.

^^^ 100% correct. If I were you, I would start looking at other community colleges and see if you can. Cuz if you don’t then you’re screwed

Unfortunately, that is a very common cause for an admission retraction.

It’s likely too late to affect your initial admissions chances (as in admit versus denial) but it’s still in your best interest to let them know as soon as possible if there is absolutely no hope of getting a linear algebra class anywhere. If you inform them early enough, they have the option of adjusting your conditions of admissions and give you adequate options for ways of meeting the requirement prior to the start of fall rather than an outright rescind.

Unfortunately it is too late to register for other community college classes in my area. So do I just contact the admissions departments for each school directly and try and work something out with them, or do I just update my Transfer update on the UC application website?

TAU would be efficient enough

Thank you, hopefully I won’t end up getting rejected by every school.

@Ecain17 Is it offered online anywhere, as a late start class, or perhaps somewhere on the quarter system?

I can’t find any community colleges that offer Linear Algebra online or as a late start.

I highly recommend contacting them directly via email. (So you have a record of correspondence.)

Your scenario makes it so that you will not be able to complete the conditions of admissions that they will provide as part of any acceptance package. This means that any initial acceptances you receive will be invalid and will need to be re-evaluated to account for the discrepancy.

It’s in your best interest to have them re-evaluate your modified application earlier so that you have ample time to make your decision on where to SIR.

For example: Say you applied and were admitted into all the UCs. If the lack of linear algebra forces UCLA to rescind your admission, you will want to know that before you SIR to a school and thus forfeiting your admission slots at the other UCs in the process.

(Due note that they will address issues like this in the order they receive them so it may take some time before you hear back from them.)

I agree with @SDGoldenBear entirely. It’s much more prudent to email them vs. just inputting the change on the TAU.

Won’t they just get the academic update anyway with the post marked update? Most schools won’t contact you or update your information just by your word or email. The best way to handle this I would say is the combination of both. Update your TAU and give them an email so they have a reference point. Your application is their way of directly talking to you.

@Countchocula25 Anything inputted into the TAU past the deadline may or may not be used. Either way, because it’s past the deadline, it’s best to email the schools directly - that way one has something in writing, and has immediate information. This is especially important, IMO, because OP was unable to get into a class that is a major requirement.

Thank you for all the advice. To be clear, I should be contacting the admissions department correct? Is there just a general email I use?

I know UCLA has a specific “portal” if you will for coursework changes. I am in the exact same boat as you and I emailed them and they told me to update through the TAU.
