Didn't get into NYU, got into Loyola

A couple of hours ago, I received my decision letter that denied me admission into the school of my dreams- NYU. I’m beyond crushed, to be quite honest. Nevertheless, my dreams of going to NYU have not faded away. They are still ever present. I am going to enroll in Loyola Chicago, I want to know if I could complete this first year and work as hard as I possibly can to raise my GPA and submit a stronger application for sophomore year. Is that a possibility? Can one transfer during their second year or is it just a one-time thing?

You can transfer, but it’s typically harder to transfer than to be admitted in the first place. Loyola Chicago is a good school. Why not just go there and make the best of it? If you go in with an attitude that you can’t wait to transfer out, you might miss out on lots…making relationships with other students and professors, taking full advantage of what Loyola has to offer, etc. You aren’t the first person to not get into their dream school.
