Didn't get into Rice... what are some similar choices?

I got deferred from Rice today.. Do a lot of people get deferred?

Anyway, I'm looking for a school like Rice.
I'm already aware of Tufts, but are there any others that are somewhat like Rice?

Those threads have some useful comments on the subject.

Why of all places would you post this to the Rice Class of 2016 sub forum?

I figured maybe other deferrees are looking for backup plans?

Either that or someone who got accepted could share the rest of their list. Is it a problem that it is here?

wavylays - what do you want to major in?

I don’t really have a particular major. I’m going to do pre-med for psychiatry.

How about Brown, Duke, Emory, Tufts, Amherst, Williams, Carleton, Middlebury, WUSTL, Claremont Colleges, Vandy, Northwestern?

They are similar in different ways, all are good schools and many have a UG focus.

Antarius, I actually applied to six of those schools, and was thinking about applying to two more. They do all have some striking resemblance with Rice in some way.

WUSTL seems to be compared with Rice a lot. Living in the area and having visited multiple times and talked to friends who go there, I can say that it does seem a fair bit like Rice, just without the residential college system.

Yes, this sub forum is for admitted students, hence “Rice 2016.” Take a look at how it’s used for other universities and you’ll see that this kind of thread belongs in the main forum.

FallenAngel - Yeah, I applied to a few myself, although I applied to places with engineering only (none of the LAC’s). Many of my friends applied to a set of colleges that contained 5 or so of the above for a variety of majors. Another school to consider is UChicago; beautiful campus. UVa as well?

If a 2016-er is unhappy about this, they can let us know. wavylays may be a member of Rice 2016 yet.

Georgetown, in terms of the self-contained campus and weather.
