Didn't get into the Quad, am I missing out?

So i got my 5th choice housing which is Kings Court English House... I know the quad is reflective of a freshman year experience so am I missing out on a lot by not being in the quad? Also what's people's experiences with KCEH?

I cannot speak to KCE however my S lived in Hill and had an awesome freshman year. And I can say with certainty it was not because of the beauty of Hill or his cozy room lol. I hear that KCE rooms are actually very spacious and nice.

But I am going to answer your question differently. I have an older S who went to a different University. As a freshman he was placed in the absolute WORST dorm possible. It was not near anything nor was it a traditional dorm that facilitated a social atmosphere. But guess what, he graduated in May from this University after four years and it was with mixed emotions. He was very sad to leave a place he loved and had a great experience even though he got his last choice housing as a freshman. His amazing four years started freshman year even though he did not like his dorm. He did not miss out on anything.

Good Luck I think you will be fine!

Thanks for the reassuring words! I’m just going to go with the flow and hope for the best!

This may be a little late, but when I went to visit Penn my tour guide was in KCE his freshman year and truly seemed to LOVE it. He said he would choose it over the quad again any day even though he too had originally opted for the quad and didn’t get it. He said there was a great since of community and he made a ton of friends quickly since everyone seemed to hang out in the common rooms. I don’t go to Penn or anything, but I thought this may help!

I was in EH back in the day. KC-EH rooms are actually pretty nice – big, new(ish) furniture etc. There is a good sense of community as there are common rooms just off the elevators so people stop by and hang out as they’re coming and going, and just like the Quad it’s open door so people will wander into each others’ rooms if the doors are open just to hang out.

You’ll make friends through class/ECs etc. that are in the Quad so it’s not like you’ll never be at the Quad. In fact it can be kind of a relief to hang out with various groups at the Quad but then go back to peace and quiet and relative cleanliness whenever you want. And KC-EH is relatively central – right by the bookstore, 2 blocks off Locust Walk etc. which you’ll appreciate in the morning when you’re booking it to class – your walk won’t be what it would have been if you got the high rises. So don’t worry about it – you’ll do fine.
