Didn't request interview in time . . .

My daughter didn’t request an interview in time for the deadline. She is very, very interested in Carleton, visited in the fall (tour and attended a class). Also attended an alumni event in our hometown. Saw in the common set that Carleton “considers” interviews, but am unclear if not having one is viewed as a negative or does it have no effect?

@ChicagoMom62 I was told to be sure to interview by another mom I know who’s daughter was accepted but did not attend. This mom is extremely familiar with top LAC and I took her advice to heart. We interviewed there over the summer for RD this year. No idea if it really matters. It was about thirty minutes and mostly she asked specifically what classes my DD was taking, how many AP, her scores etc. this was obviously before she submitted her CA. My DD got a note later from admissions but then every school sends a similar note to interviewees. We did not have any events to attend locally so you probably are fine. You showed interest.

After watching my D go through the process last year, all I can say is there is no logic to the admission decision making process. My D is a freshman at Carleton and loves it! She added Carleton to her list pretty late in the process, so no visit, no interview and no outreach to the school. She was accepted at Carleton but was wait listed at a couple “lower rated” LACs she had visited and interviewed with that have higher acceptance rates, lower scores, etc. You never know what they are looking for.

Our DS visited in March of his jr year and applied ED. We didn’t schedule an interview. He’s in his sophomore year now, but we may have had an edge in being from a low population state and representing (sort of) geographic diversity.

Thank you all for your responses. This whole process is, at times, overwhelming. Things are optional, but also considered. It makes my head hurt.

I never interviewed and not many of my friends did either. Don’t sweat it.
