Didn't send in fin-aid docs yet, and no notifications..rejected? =\

As the title says, I didn't send in any documents regarding fin-aid to Yale yet. Yale did not send me any emails about sending in docs...so tell me, does this mean I was rejected and they didn't bother to check if they had my docs there?

No.

If you are accepted you will then get an email from the finaid place saying that they need more docs.

I would say they didn’t bother? the deadline for financial aid isn’t that strict anyway. I handed in all the documents but they didn’t confirm receipt or anything.

They probably just assumed that you weren’t applying for FA

Fatum, we had a similar experience – we somehow submited the css profile to all schools except for Yale and Columbia. Columbia sent my S an email asking to submit the CSS profile a few days ago and that’s when we realized that we hadn’t submitted it to Yale either. It could be a sign to a bad news, or maybe not. Eitherway, it is no use to worry about it now. I am telling my S to assume that he won’t get good news from any of the reach schools.

FWIW

Yale’s deadline for the IDOCS for Profile was March 14…meaning you should have submitted the FAFSA and PROFILE online asap after Jan 1…and then the Profile would send you an email asking for the IDOC submittal. (you have to have sent completed tax returns for 2010, 1099s etc.

If you didn’t check applying for Finaid on your app,
and didn’t apply for Finaid, which sounds like you didn’t if you failed to send them anything they asked for in the FinAid process

…then its not a sign at all.

You just won’t get a Financial Aid letter indicating your COA and calculated need with an acceptance.

Thanks for the responses everyone!

By the documents, I meant the IDOCs. I did send Yale the CSS PROFILE before deadline, but I am waiting on receiving the documents (I’m int’l so they come out late). So I was wondering if it was normal that the school doesn’t ask why I still didn’t send in the forms.

Hmm,
CSS Profile should have sent you en email with an ID Number.
You enter that number into the Profile system along with date of birth etc…
It give you a cover sheet to sbumit with your documents, which you mail to IDOCS. IDOCS scans everything and Yale uses that to corroberate what you claim in your Profile.

Yale will be looking for those documents as they have said they 100% verify the income etc. with the tax documents etc

I dont know if the policies are different for internationals.

You may want to log into the CSS Profile and see if your inital PROFILE report shows paid/sent to Yale.

Any changes from your estimates need to be written on a copy of the Profile you submitted to Yale, and that document should be mailed to Yale’s fin office directly.

Just did all that here so it’s fresh in my mind.

Good luck.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks fogfog! I did receive that email awhile ago, and the CSS was indeed sent to Yale. Since I didn’t have the 2010 documents, I asked Yale what to do, and they said to send the 2009 docs directly to their office. That was weeks ago and I didn’t send anything to them yet.

Maybe they won’t verify it before making an offer? Maybe they only needs the PROFILE to make their decision and fin-aid offer? Or the dreaded option…maybe they already rejected me so they don’t care if they don’t have my documents…><

@Fatum I was actually wondering the same thing (sort of)! I just realized a little while ago that one of my teachers never sent Yale my letter of recommendation. While it wasn’t my “primary” teacher, I still thought that Yale would want letters from both teachers, but they still haven’t sent me anything telling me I’m missing anything. I feel like it’s too late now since they have probably made a decision already… gulp

With 2009 docs they can give you a guess-tamite…however they will have to have 2010 tax docs…your corrected Profile etc
Why wait?
Get on that and send it in…

If you get in and want to go, you will want to know if you are eligible for any aid…
If your family is high income…then its a non issue.

I posted two links to recent articles in the Yale Daily news…the links are in the thread about Yale vs Harvard Financial Aid

My parents actually cannot find their 2009 docs =( lol and I’m not sure what I have is the right things to send. My family income is around 30k so I think all the schools I have applied SHOULD give me full aid.

Which makes me wonder…will there be any difference in aids from schools that award full aid for my family?

^Fatum, I think there may be, depending on the school’s endowment and of course how they treat international applicants. I may be wrong though.
