I am becoming very stressed out about this college stuff, a lot of pressure on me to do well. I am a California resident so of course Id love to go to the top UC's (LA,Berk,SD) but I know I dont have a chance. My question is, I havnt taken any Ap courses in high school so far but I have taken all honors courses, I have a decent list of EC's, I can write a good personal essay, and my GPA is 3.7. If I can get SAT score of (old scale) 1200 will I have a chance at atleast UCSB,UCI,UCD and UCSC?
Id prefer SB, UCI or Davis. Also what can I do to reach the level required for those colleges at this point, I am a junior.

Yeah, you have a good chance at the lower UC's.

If your UC GPA is 3.7, you'll need a bit higher than a 1200 to stand a good shot at all but UCR and Merced. Try especially hard to get good SATII scoress, which count more for UCs.

Yeah 3.7 is my UC GPA. Thanks guys..anyone else have any input?

have you taken any community college courses ? those can go on your UC app

Yeah Ive taken Psychology and Astronomy (recieved a B grade in both) and I plan to take either English 101 or Political Science. But my ultimate goal is a school like UCSB or UCI, do I have chance...anyone?

If there is something unusual and you write a great essay, maybe.

What do you mean by unusual?

Will I have a better chance (considering my stats) at UCSB UCD or UCI if i apply for a really unpopular major then if i get in change it?

does your school offers the AP program?
if it does, it might hurt a bit..

otherwise, it wont..

Yeah they do offer AP's but I have a reason for not taking them. I am in the Magnet program in which most of the students are labled "gifted" and I believe my counseler is biased because all the gifted kids got priority into the AP's. I know this because I am not "gifted" and when i attempted and requested the classes I was denied. Do you think the UC's will accept my reason when I write it in my personal statement? I talked to the counseler about this bias and she said shell reserve a space for me in my senior year Ap courses. Should I take AP classes my senior year, but wouldnt that make my explanation invalid?

you must mention that on your UC Application.

Update~~~ That SAT score (old scale) I expected which was 1200. I was shocked beyond belief to learn I got a 470 Math, 560 V. Total 1030!!! With a 3.7 UC gpa, possibly 3.6 UC gpa by the end, and with a list of EC's such as President of Two clubs, Youth group director, 200 hrs plus ect ect.... will I have a decent chance annnywhere. Is UCR even a match? UC SC?? I am soo screwedd

i think UCI and riverside should be okay if u can get that SAT score up a bit. My friend didnt have as good ECs as u and his gpa was lower but he got into UCI and UCR. His sat was in the mid 1200s
