diff b/w English and Comp Lit?

as the title says, I was wondering what the specific differences between English and Comp Lit for the R&C Requirements...

Also, if I take one course for R&C-A, am I required to take the second half of the same course for R&C-B?

(ex: English R1A-->must take English R1B?...no, right?) thanks!

R&C Requirements are university reqs that must be met, no matter WHAT major you are. Even if you're majoring in chemistry! You must take R1A or R1B, or satisfy these reqs through AP scores (like a 5 on English Lit).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong... I'm going into Comp Lit myself, so I hope I'm right ;)

you are correct :)

From the course catalog:

Comp lit: Expository writing based on analysis of selected masterpieces of ancient and modern literature.

English: Training in writing expository prose.
A. Instruction in expository writing in conjunction with reading literature.
B. Further instruction in expository writing in conjunction with reading literature.

I believe Comp Lit requires you to take a few semesters of a foreign language as well if you are also thinking about majoring. But yea, the university requires a 5 on the AP Lit to get out of R&C

English vs. comp lit isn't much of an issue on the R and C level. However, like the majors, I would suspect that comp lit is more focused on literature from throughout the world whereas English is more concerned with literature in the English language.

Go to the individual department websites, they have specific descriptions of what topics are covered in every section of RandC classes
